Meet the Ontario Summer Staff for 2026

We are so blessed this summer to have some amazing students filling out our summer staff team! Summer students play a crucial role in our work by assisting with education programs, engaging in scientific monitoring and research, nurturing biodiversity through habitat restoration projects, and growing local food for those in need through our sustainable agriculture initiative. 

It is also a great opportunity for them to gain field experience, learn more about the intersection of faith and creation care, and grow as earth keepers and leaders in their communities.

Josiah Ropp

Gardener
University of Waterloo

What is your favourite outdoor activity?
My favourite outdoor activity is either hiking or napping in a hammock. 

What is your favourite animal?
My favourite animals are brown bears.

What are you looking forward to this summer?
I’m looking forward to planting, harvesting, and managing my very own garden! Oh, and getting married!

Andrew Housh

Conservation and Restoration Technician
University of Waterloo

What is your favourite outdoor activity?
Watching the sunset from the top of my condo building, appreciating the beauty of the sky and the surrounding forests – especially in the fall when leaves are changing colour.

What is your favourite animal?
Although I can’t pick a favourite, I’ve been fascinated to learn more about birds while here at A Rocha. I get excited every time I see the Baltimore Orioles and Sandhill Cranes. 

What are you looking forward to this summer?
I’m excited to gain experience in environmental field work here at A Rocha and, later in the summer, go up to Algonquin Park for a camping trip to spend time in nature and fellowship with Christian friends.

Jacob Meyer

Hiking or rock climbing. 

What is your favourite animal?
Birds.

What are you looking forward to this summer?
I’m looking forward to a canoe trip in Killarney with friends.
