‘Sharing Farm’ is just one of many projects and uses of the City of Richmond’s, Terra Nova Rural Park in British Columbia.
A few A Rocha Colleagues and I had the opportunity to visit Terra Nova and learn about all the different collaborations and projects happening on this piece of city-owned land! It was inspiring to see how all the groups shared the space! A Red Barn equipped with a commercial kitchen, Compost Bins Demonstration, Sharing Farm produce given to local food bank, large community garden plots, permaculture projects, natural areas and students from Kwantlen’s Farm School.
We were visiting farms and gardens to learn more about how they engage with Children on Food Security Education.
Here’s the list of projects and organizations involved: Richmond Schoolyard Society, City of Richmond Gardening and Compost Demonstration + 95 Community Garden Plots, Richmond Fruit Tree Project- Sharing Farm, Kwantlen Farm School, Permaculture courses, and Richmond Food Security Society.
Thank you Colin Dring of Richmond Food Security Society for the tour! We were given the tour just before Richmond City Councillors voted to ban GMOs and GE Crops in Richmond!
