An A Rocha gathering in Ottawa

On August 28, 2016 twenty-six people gathered to hike in Gatineau Park, swim in Kingsmere Lake, have a potluck supper and watch the Man Alive film A Genial Fanatic. This film follows the story of Bill Mason – a legendary Canadian canoeist, filmmaker, painter, and also an early Christian environmentalist.

Bill Mason’s widow Joyce and son Paul also joined us and contributed to the discussion after the film. Approximately half of those in attendance were attending their first A Rocha event. Two of the first-time attenders wrote the following about their experience:

Thanks so much for Sunday. The hike was good in spite of the rain. It was cooling and it made the woods vibrant green. The swim was delightful. The sun came out just at the right moment.

Dinner was delicious. The crustless quiche and zucchini lasagna were great. We enjoyed the people we met. Your home is so comfortable and welcoming.

It was interesting to hear more about A Rocha, the garden and future programs. We really appreciated the Man Alive film. Bill was an amazing person – his commitment to protecting our environment continues to inspire us. Wonderful to have Joyce and Paul in attendance and to hear their comments.

Thanks so much!
