A Rocha Canada’s Just Growing Day Camps bless the communities in Winnipeg’s ‘West End’ as children practice respect, make new friends, and feed themselves and their families. Our third camp is coming up August 11-14th, 2014, at City Church (484 Maryland St. 9am-12:30pm). The camps in July in Wolseley and Spence neighbourhoods were huge successes: we saw lots of smiles, dirt-y hands, berry-smeared faces, and heard songs and laughter.

Children mentioned a variety of ‘favourite’ times from their week at camp. For many, it was special to get to know others who were strangers Monday morning and good friends by Friday. For other campers, the highlight  was ‘Water Day Wednesday’ spent watering their favourite garden plants with watering cans and later slip-and-sliding in the sun. A surprising number enjoyed the ‘Bug Day’ most of all, when they caught, observed, and identified a huge variety of insects from the gardens. To top it off, each week of camp culminated in a feast for the parents, prepared by the children, including fresh veggies, edible flowers, and chive-cheddar biscuits.

Registration for our last week of camp is August 11th, Monday morning, 9am, at City Church. Pre-registrations are also welcome in-person at our office at St. Margaret’s Anglican Church, 160 Ethelbert St. E-mail bethany.paetkau@arocha.ca for more information.
