Remember that documentary, Who Killed the Electric Car? Well, a few survived and Markku Kostamo, A Rocha Canada’s Executive Director, is driving one to prove it! The car in question is a 2003 all electric Toyota Rav and is generously on loan from Lowell Leifso, an electric car enthusiast and a member of VEVA (Vancouver Electric Vehicle Association). With a range of 160 kilometres, it is perfect for Markku’s purposes of zipping around the lower mainland to meet with donors and partner organizations. In reflecting on his new set of wheels Markku commented, “At $2.50 a tank it certainly is economical. Of course, it’s not a transportation silver bullet since our energy issues are complex and electricity does not always come from ‘green’ sources. Nevertheless, it’s an important technology that does have the potential to reduce carbon emissions.”
