It is hard to believe that 20 weeks ago we plunged into A Rocha’s 11th CSA season with a tentative first week of veggies – slightly ahead of schedule due to the long warm stretch of May-June. Now here we are in late October, the adventure coming to an end! Nearly 80 families joined in the journey of seasonal, local eating. It isn’t always easy to have such a large and eclectic collection of vegetables enter your kitchen once a week and we commend our participants culinary bravery!

This was in many ways a challenging season for us – but even hard years have their abundance, so I give thanks for drip irrigation, for my patient family, for volunteers who showed up just at the right moment, and for the encouragement of enthusiastic CSA members! This season the CSA sent about 25,000 pounds of vegetables to eaters around Vancouver, Surrey and Langley. We donated hundreds of pounds of vegetables to our local food bank and supplied the Brooksdale community kitchen with raw ingredients to feed many hundreds of volunteers and visitors over the course of the season.

If you live in BC’s Lower Mainland and missed out on the bounty, stay tuned for information on signing up for next season!
