Project Description

Stream Restoration

Onsite at Cedar Haven Eco-Centre, we have a Provincially Significant Wetland which hosts high amounts of biodiversity in both vernal pools and streams. These streams form some of the headwaters of Bronte Creek and flow into Lake Ontario. We are focusing our restoration efforts on one section of stream in particular at Cedar Haven. This section was eroding due to a failed culvert which ran under one of our footpaths on the property. Our work has been to daylight the stream and remove the failed culvert. We have added a bridge to connect the footpath and are stabilizing the banks with a combination of field stone, jute mat and riparian plantings. This work has resulted in halting the erosion, providing more riparian habitat and removing any barriers to fish passage.
