Project Description
Project NEST
In 2023, A Rocha Ontario launched a new project to install and monitor more nestboxes with community support. This project is called “Project NEST” which stands for Nestbox Evidence Stewardship Training. Our goal is to increase habitat for breeding birds that are at risk in Southern Ontario. To do this, we work with eligible volunteer partners to put up our nest boxes on their property and support monitoring.
So far, we have partnered with 16 different sites and placed 35 nest boxes for 5 different bird species. These nest boxes were placed with local property owners, including schools, churches and private individuals! Through one of these partnerships with Redeemer University and Dr. Kenneth Anyomi, students produced a report, “Monitoring Avian Reproduction on Redeemer Campus.” Read this report to learn more about the work and research they have done with Project NEST.
Check out this flyer to find out more about this project. If you or your organization are interested in getting involved with Project NEST, please reach out to us at on.conservation@arocha.ca.
