The Pembina Valley Provincial Park (PVPP) has begun preparing to grow from 178 hectares to 931 hectares through the purchase of new land and the conversion of wildlife management area. This is being done through a partnership between the Manitoba Government and the Manitoba branch of the Nature Conservancy of Canada.
Our centre and the Pembina Valley Bible Camp also sit adjacent to the PVPP, which further increases the size of the protected area. The increased size of this protected ecosystem will help ensure the health of the wildlife living within it.
We have a very positive relationship with the people who manage the PVPP. In the summer of 2014 we took on a contract to help maintain the park’s hiking trails. We have also worked with them to reopen important trails that have closed over the years due to slumping and erosion. We expect that our relationship with the PVPP will continue to grow.
The Manitoba Government has plans to extend the hiking trails at the park and may also set up a backwoods campsite. Public consultations are to take place this spring, but dates are not yet set.
