Pembina Valley Bioblitz (PVIC, MB)
June 3, 2017 @ 10:00 am - 3:00 pm EDT
Join us as we learn about and celebrate biodiversity in the Pembina Valley.
The Pembina Valley is a biodiversity hotspot in Southern Manitoba. The valley is home to a surprising amount of birds, mammals, insects, amphibians, reptiles, plants, and fungi. We want to take time to appreciate and celebrate this biodiversity.
On June 3rd from 10:00am until 3:00pm we will host a public celebration of the valley’s biodiversity. This will be an opportunity to learn about the plants and animals that make their home in the Pembina Valley. You’ll be able to participate in themed guided hikes and activity stations. Partners from other interpretive centres, such as Oak Hammock Marsh will help us facilitate these stations. It is our hope that this event will help you become better acquainted with this valuable local landmark, the Pembina Valley.
A short closing ceremony will take place at 3:00pm with the preliminary counts and messages from local leaders about the importance of biodiversity and public green spaces.
The first 75 people to arrive will receive a free Pembina Valley Bioblitz t-shirt.
Outside of this public celebration, the Pembina Valley Bioblitz is a 24-hour effort to identify as many plant and animal species as possible at the A Rocha Pembina Valley Interpretive Centre. We have invited naturalists and biologists specializing in various fields to do the counting. However, if you would like to contribute to the count, please contact us for information.
The Pembina Valley Bioblitz is an A Rocha Pembina Valley Interpretive Centre event. It is made possible through the support of TD Friends of the Environment Fund, the Pembina Valley Conservation District, and the Winkler Morden Co-op.
