Join local birders to count as many species of birds as we can in a 48 hour period. Count birds at your feeders, on your walks, during your activities or at an official A Rocha event and report them to the “2025 Bird Blitz Houston BC” project on iNaturalist: https://www.inaturalist.org/projects/2025-bird-blitz-houston-bc

Thursday, May 22
7:00 pm – Join local naturalist Cindy Verbeek @ Buck Creek Hatchery and Nature Centre in Houston for a slide presentation of the Birds of Houston as seen during bird blitzes for the past decade .
Friday, May 23
12:01 am – Let the counting begin.
6 pm – “How to Bird” Walk for families @ Silverthorne Lake.
Join Mrs. Cindy for a hike around Silverthorne lake to learn tips and trick for bird watching.
7 pm – Drop In Bird Watching
Bring your family and meet at the new viewing platform at the Houston Duck Pond for this family friendly drop in event to spot spring birds at the Duck Pond.
Saturday, May 27
7 am – Bird Nerds Unite
Birders meet at the Nature Centre to create teams and coordinate locations for the day. (The team with the most recorded species will win a prize.)
9 am – Vallee Lake Birding Hike
Join Bulkley Valley Naturalists for a rigorous birding adventure around Vallee Lake led by local naturalist Frank MacDonald. Geared towards intermediate and advanced bird watchers.
5 pm – Wrap-up Campfire
Join us for some treats around a campfire at the Nature Centre to tally the count for the day, find out who wins the prize for the most species counted and hear stories of birding in the Bulkley Valley by local bird watchers.
12:00 Midnight – Last records accepted for official count.
