One sign of spring is the migration of Golden and Bald eagles in southern Manitoba. Soon to follow are thousands of other birds of prey (raptors) which will fly through the Pembina Valley. Eighteen diurnal species of raptors have been recorded in the valley and the La Rivière Raptor Festival will be a chance to see some of these species in migration. This free festival event will give the public an opportunity to talk to conservation organizations (e.g. A Rocha, Bird Studies Canada) and see live raptors brought in by two wildlife rehabilitation organizations. There is also an opportunity to enter a photography contest (“Wild about Birds”). Great food, friendly people and crafts for kids will help make this festival an exciting family adventure. La Rivière is located about 135 km southwest of Winnipeg along Highway No. 3. Mark your calendar for this festival sponsored by the Local Unit District of La Rivière with A Rocha as one of its partners.
