Thanks to volunteers Al Schritt, Paul Goossen, and others. The raptor migration count came to an end on Monday, 6 May. This year’s counting effort was longer than the past 8 seasons, with about 567 hours of monitoring put in from February to May. Volunteers counted over 18,000 raptors, the highest number in a single season to date in the Pembina Valley. Most of the 16 species of raptors had record counts. One major surprise was the Peregrine Falcons which put in quite a showing with 210 individuals counted. More details on the count will be forthcoming in the Raptor Review newsletter and the 2013 report.
