Last month, Samuel Chiu, Chair of the A Rocha Climate Change Programme and Community Engagement Coordinator for A Rocha Canada, and his wife Rebecca, were at the 10th Chinese Congress on World Evangelization (CCOWE) in Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia.
It was an incredible gathering of people, with 1700 delegates from more than 80 countries and regions! The conference was organized around three main themes: Kingdom Gospel, Holistic Mission, and Chinese Churches; and in his keynote message on the 3rd day, Patrick Fung, Chair of the CCOWE International Board of Directors, shared that caring for God’s creation was a part of living out the Gospel. Following that Winnie Fung, Chief Executive of Christian relief and development organisation CEDAR Fund, addressed the congress from the lens of reconciliation and urged the global Chinese church to respond to the polycrisis accordingly.

Together with Yvonne Lam, Lausanne WEA Creation Care Network Regional Representative for East Asia and A Rocha Conservation Certificate graduate from Hong Kong, Samuel and Rebecca engaged congress attendees over four days at the Kingdom Commons, the congress’ ministry exhibit. Samuel also led a two-hour workshop on creation care as Christian mission.
We also celebrate Samuel’s contribution to a chapter on creation care in “The Kingdom Gospel in Action: Co-creating the Future of the Global Chinese Church with God”, a book launched in conjunction with the congress.
It is our prayer that caring for God’s creation as holistic missional work continues to inspire and grow among the global Chinese church.
