Hello! My name is Saki and I am one of the happy people who are helping to grow your weekly box of veggies this season. I am one of 3 and a half garden interns learning about sustainable agriculture this summer. I am very enthusiastic about food and the culture around it, from growing it, eating it, preserving it, to learning about the importance of the slow food movement. In the fall I will be starting at UBC in an obscure (but hopefully awesome) science program called Global Resource Systems.
In your box this week you received:• Zucchini
• Fresh dill
• Broccoli sideshoots/flowers
• Turnips
• Sweet peas or snap peas or broad beans
• Baby lettuce and arugula mix
• Tah tsai
• Kale
• Cucumber
*Tah tsai is an Asian vegetable that goes great in salad, soup, or stir frys. It’s quite nutritious, with a delicate flavor and edible stalks and leaves.
Packing up the boxes this week was especially pleasant, with the wonderful aroma of fresh dill, and beautiful broccoli flowers (which are completely edible!). Hope you enjoy!
