The community of Winkler is making more space for nature and now it is time to celebrate!

The Discovery Nature Sanctuary (DNS) was first established last summer and now we are ready to celebrate! You can join us on June 9th for the DNS’ Grand Opening!

You will get to enjoy nature inside Winkler’s city limits and learn about the ways the DNS is enhancing the space. The event starts with an opening ceremony. After that, there will be a chance to explore different stations at the DNS and lunch will be available for purchase.

The DNS is on the SW corner of Highway 14 and Eastview Drive
Please bring a water bottle and a folding chair

In addition to celebrating the Nature Sanctuary, we will also be holding a Bioblitz. This is a 24-hour effort to find and identify as many plant and animal species as possible. This gives us a good idea of the starting condition of the DNS. It also opens our eyes to the diversity at the DNS! Please contact us if you would like to participate in the Bioblitz.

Along with the City of Winkler, the Winkler Horticultural Society, GVSD, and many passionate individuals, we have been an excited partner in starting up the Discovery Nature Sanctuary. It is a natural space close to home to enjoy birds, bugs, and plants! It also supports struggling, beneficial wildlife.
