In mid-April, a diverse group of Christians gathered together in Toronto for a two-day retreat to explore “Climate Change and Environmental Decline as a Moral Issue.” The aim of the retreat was to discuss, connect, and mobilize faith communities to address environmental issues, and particularly climate change, from the ethical and moral frameworks that arise from our religious convictions. There were contributions from an IPCC scientist, a former member of parliament, various people from the media, a number of professors including Loren Wilkinson from Regent College, and representatives of various Christian organizations such as KAIROS, World Vision, and the Evangelical Fellowship of Canada.
A Rocha Canada was represented by Dr. Darren Brouwer, professor of chemistry and environmental science at Redeemer University College, a long-time supporter of A Rocha and now member of A Rocha Canada’s Science Advisory Committee. Darren led a discussion on engaging evangelical communities in environmental issues and described the work that A Rocha does in Canada and beyond. Many of those in attendance were very excited by the work of A Rocha and its unique approach to creation care and Christian mission.
