Project Description

Join us throughout the school year for PA Day Nature Camp!

Spend your PA Days at A Rocha Ontario’s PA Day Nature Camp this school year! We are hosting 1-day nature camps to give your child the opportunity to learn about and build a personal connection to the natural world. Each nature camp day will be filled with nature experiences, science experiments, storytelling, nature-based art and fun games! Together, we will explore nature from both familiar and new perspectives, building friendships and fond memories along the way.

This event is open to children ages 5-13, and will be hosted in various venues in the Hamitlon-area.

FAQ

Program

As a Christian conservation organization we strive to create warm, inclusive, quality environmental education programs that care for creation and equip others to do likewise. Our goal is to inspire hope, wonder and curiosity through hands-on, place-based immersive science education. By providing students with the opportunity to expand their eco-literacy and familiarity with the natural world, our desire is that as a reflection of this knowledge, their appreciation, care and love of that space deepen and develop alongside their learning and exploration.

Our work reflects our belief that God loves all of creation and calls humanity to act as stewards of that creation – both the human and non-human bits

Diving Deeper into our Christian theology:

We aim to provide inclusive programming for a wide range of cultural backgrounds within our community. With that in mind, we welcome insights from all cultures to address environmental challenges- to learn and grow from one another, while remaining rooted in our calling to care for creation out of a love from the Creator.

This program is open to learners of all abilities, but please let us know about any concerns you may have at registration so that we can prepare accordingly.  For students that do require additional support, such as a personal EA, it is the responsibility of parent(s) or guardian(s) to provide this support. (Whether it be a family member or privately arranged support staff is up to the caregiver’s discretion.)

All children attending the program must be able to use the washroom independently. For children that require support with this, a support person for the child will need to attend as described above.

If additional support is being arranged, please inform us of the name of the support person and their relation to the student at ontario@arocha.ca.

Health & Safety

At  A Rocha Ontario, we encourage hands-on education and natural play. With this approach, a few minor scrapes and bruises are not uncommon. On the rare occasion of an emergency, we are prepared with first-aid trained staff members on-site at all times and protocols in place for any emergency situation.

If you have specific concerns please contact us at ontario@arocha.ca.

For the most part, these programs will run rain or shine (or snow). We approach inclement weather as a learning tool, rather than a deterrent. If it is hot, we find shade and water. If it is cold, we layer up and build a fire. If it rains, we go jump in puddles!

However, if severe weather (eg. lightning storm, extreme heat or cold) poses a danger to our students, we will take appropriate measures to ensure everyone’s safety.

*Please note: this is a predominantly outdoor program. We recognize that being outside all day may be challenging for some children, so it is up to you to determine whether your child is ready for this kind of outdoor experience.

Yes, we do. We strive to create safe, healthy work and learning environments for students, staff and anyone attending our programs. Please review our Health and Illness Policy here prior to attending this program.

Please reach out to us at ontario@arocha.ca if you have any questions.

To try to make our programs as accessible as possible, we have introduced sliding scale pricing. For this program, you can choose from one of three fee options when registering:

  • Subsidized Rate: Choose this one if cost is a barrier to you attending. We are able to offer this option due to the generosity of our supporters, including donors and grants. For our PA Day Nature Camp, this rate option is $60.
  • True-Value Rate: This is what we estimate to be a fair cost for the event. It helps us cover costs of staff, materials, and other fees associated with running the event. For our PA Day Nature Camp, this rate option is $65.
  • Pay-It-Forward Rate: Choose this one if you want to invest in the future of A Rocha programming and help others be able to come at the subsidized rate. For our PA Day Nature Camp, this rate option is $70.

By offering tiered pricing, we aim to balance affordability with sustainability, making our programs accessible while also providing participants with an opportunity to support their community. If you have any questions, please reach out to us at ontario@arocha.ca.

Full program refunds (minus a 5% admin fee) can be requested up to 1 week before the program.

Generally speaking, we do not offer refunds for cancellations after this period, but extenuating circumstances may be considered on a case-by-case basis.

If you have any questions, please reach out to us at ontario@arocha.ca.
