A Rocha’s Brooksdale Environmental Centre played host to an intriguing Community Garden Workshop full of practical, hands-on learning. “The Plot Thickens” workshop recently kicked off with two full days of teaching and training by a brother and sister duo–Paul Neufeld (A Rocha’s Farm Manager in BC) and Jen Kornelsen (A Rocha Community organizer in Winnipeg). This informative weekend will be followed by monthly, applied sessions in the garden. An enthusiastic group of nearly 40 participants representing over 20 churches and community groups attended and learned not only how to build the relational web necessary for a successful community garden, but also how to build compost bins and organic soil.
Wally Robinson, representing Calvary Baptist Church in Gibsons, BC, had this to say about his experience: “I enjoyed every aspect of the workshop from learning to construct a raised bed to individually designing our own gardens. I am very glad to have so many strategies in place to help make the start of our church’s community garden inclusive and smooth.”
