With sad, but grateful hearts we bid farewell to Nick and Susan Pharaoh who very ably served as our Manitoba Directors based out of the Pembina Valley Field Station the past three years. Nick and Susan’s incredible gift for hospitality will be missed, but we look forward to welcoming them back to visit (and volunteer!) from time to time.
With an equal sense of gratitude we welcome Bethany Paetkau and her family who take the reins from Nick and Susan. Bethany spent the last couple of years helping run A Rocha’s Just Growing project in Winnipeg and so comes with passion and vision for growing food and engaging others in the care of creation. Here, in their own worlds, are the Paetkau’s first impressions of their new home.
“We are glad to have transitioned into site management and we are starting to settle into our new roles. The garden is in the pantry, freezer, and root cellar, and we are preparing the site for winter. One hundred and sixty youth came in early October, which swung us into the bustling activity of curious young people engaged in learning activities and games. It is a pleasure to welcome people on site for hiking, snowshoeing (starting soon!), and overnight visits. You are always welcome to come meet us and relax in this beautiful piece of God’s creation.”
