A Rocha Ontario Gathers in Hamilton

On Saturday November 12th, 100 people from all corners of A Rocha’s Ontario community came together to enjoy each other’s company and to hear about A Rocha’s inspiring work in Hamilton. Guests spent an evening in story, song and fellowship with the help of local poet, John Terpstra, and local musician, Nabi. Local caterers from Karam Kitchen treated attendees to Syrian cuisine of beef and rice stuffed zucchini, pitas, halloumi stuffed bread as well as herb and grain salads.

Markku Kostamo (A Rocha Canada President) spoke of A Rocha’s aspirations and passion as an organization. Luke Wilson (A Rocha Ontario Director) shared Ontario’s vision to be a leader in inner-city creation care and community living through an exciting initiative: the creation of the first-ever A Rocha Urban Centre!

Shanika, a summer student worker with A Rocha’s Earth to Table program, spoke of her time gardening with a young girl from Chad. For Shanika, this relationship reminded her that “God gives quiet glimpses of Himself in the unassuming and undeserved moments” and that these moments are “a reminder that A Rocha’s vision of bringing care and hope to people and creation is foundational to the timeline of God’s story – a movement in which we are part of.”
