Project Description

Fred Bunnell, Science Advisory Committee

Now Professor Emeritus of the University of British Columbia, Fred has published over 600 scientific articles and reports to government and industry, and received many provincial, national and international awards for applied research. In his 40 years at UBC he was as Professor of Forest Wildlife, Forest Renewal BC Chair in Conservation Biology, and founding Director for the Centre of Applied Conservation Biology. He has held elected offices in professional societies, commissions (including Independent Chair of the Clayoquot Scientific Panel) and served on over 70 provincial, national, and international committees dealing with resource management. He studied forestry and wildlife biology in British Columbia, Switzerland and the United States – including Berkeley in the 1960’s, which did not leave him unchanged.

His work has taken him to 30 countries, most recently on a lecture tour in Australia. Closer to home, he is a past president of the Langley Field Naturalists and has served on committees for BC Nature. He is Quaker, happily married, a father, and loves life immensely.

Fred contributes regularly to the A Rocha blog’s Did You Know? series – examining the wild and wonderful world we live in.
