Bruce Reid

A semi-retired aquatic biologist and program manager with over 35 years of experience working in the Vancouver Lower Mainland area, Bruce studied marine biology at the University of BC where he obtained a BSc, degree in 1979. He initially worked for a local environmental consulting firm before joining the federal government (Fisheries and Oceans Canada) where he has worked for over 30 years in both the Delta and Vancouver offices focusing on fish and fish habitat protection associated with development on marine and freshwater ecosystems. While with the Department of Fisheries and Oceans, Bruce also spent 4 years as a First Nations treaty negotiator and recently led a team responsible for managing and establishing Oceans Act marine protected areas on Canada’s Pacific Coast and developing an integrated oceans plan for Canada’s Pacific North Coast.

As a child Bruce spent countless summers examining intertidal areas on the Gulf Islands where he developed his lifelong love of the natural world. He is a strong advocate of the need for collaboration and constructive dialogue between developers, governments, First Nations, stakeholders and the public in the conservation and protection of sensitive habitats.
