Seabird protection by our friends at A Rocha Aotearoa (New Zealand)

A Rocha Aotearoa are working to eradicate pests from Karioi Maunga to protect the Oi, the grey faced petrel.
A handful of twigs stand in a row at the entrance to a burrow on the cliffs above Ngarunui Beach, Raglan. At another entrance, a fence, the handiwork of the oi, the grey faced petrel, is taken down. It’s a clear indication the burrow is occupied says A Rocha Aotearoa national co-director Kristel van Houte who, along with the Karioi Project is adding an extra layer of protection for the seabird.
“This year we are really excited to see some there are actually some successful burrows,” van Houte said. “We’re just keeping a close eye and doing the predator control.”
