Trees and Their Care (Winkler, MB)
December 16, 2017 @ 1:30 pm - 3:30 pm EST
People have a special and unique relationship with trees. We love to visit them as they grow naturally in forests. However, even in cities there are always trees nearby. We grow them in our yards for shade, in our towns for beauty, around our fields for protection from the wind. They produce oxygen for us and we use them to build our homes. Even just the sight of a tree can give us a sense of peace, inspiration, or nostalgia.
Given how much we rely on trees, it is surprising how little we can know about them. For example, what is the difference between a pine and a spruce? What causes the leaves of trees to change colour? How can we distinguish between trees in the winter?
To learn the answers to some of these questions join us as David Wallace, a professional arborist in Winkler, teaches us about trees. He will help us understand and recognize the characteristics of different trees, including their branch structure, leaf types, and how they grow. Also, we’ll learn about the roles they play in our ecosystems and communities. Finally, we’ll learn how we can best care for our trees.
Be prepared to go outside for a portion of this presentation, as Wallace will be demonstrating pruning techniques outdoors.
