Come one, Come all to a conservation event for the whole family!
We hope to visit Cedar Haven Farm in Flamborough with a number of experts to identify local species. We will form teams, and with the help of the experts, develop a list of the species found on the property in late spring. All ages welcome!
Email peter.scholtens@arocha.ca for more details.
What is a BioBlitz?
A BioBlitz is a short, intense team effort to discover as many different life forms as possible in one location. This involves researchers and the general public working together to identify as many species as possible in a defined period. Our A Rocha BioBlitz will last 3 hours. We invite people of all ages to join biologists and naturalists as they learn the names of plants and animals around them and take part in the unique activities organized at our potential A Rocha site in the countryside north of Hamilton. You will get a chance to try your hand at species identification, photography, wildlife sketching, writing about nature, or the discovery of the natural history of their area. No two BioBlitzes are ever the same, as they are a reflection of the area, the weather, and the organisms present at the time.
This BioBlitz will be an opportunity for you to enhance your appreciation of the environment through art and exploration, and to engage in true citizen science. As this is our first Bioblitz on the site, we will begin putting together a custom species list for this location. This is exciting, as we will be developing the foundation of ongoing conservation science in this area!
