I have had a number of highlights over the past number of months and things for which I am continuously grateful. I have had the opportunity to pursue things within A Rocha that I love: education and meeting with interns one on one. The times that I have been able to help out with the education program has reminded me about how much I enjoy middle school kids. I have also enjoyed the chances I have had to do some public speaking – from giving a sermon at our church (an intimidating venture) to speaking at a few Christian School Chapels. Meeting with the interns one on one has also been a source of joy and is mutually beneficial- it helps the interns to feel supported and cared for during their time here and it is life giving for me to be able to be a part of these people’s lives.
This past year we also hosted a number of evening lectures at Brooksdale from people who are trying to live out the call to care for creation in various ways. It was a great treat to hear from a wide range of people (from a photographer to a marine biologist to a local businessperson) and hear how they articulated the ways in which they live out their values. It was enriching for all those that attended as well.
Abigail is also a constant delight as we have watched her move from babyhood to toddlerhood. I am thankful for this place that she gets to grow up in and the endless opportunities it affords her for exploration. Her current favorite activity is to go collect eggs from the “Bok Boks” with her daddy.
