P1380621-e1457472079333-300x263When out preparing this morning for a Community Clean-up Day and Bonfire (Saturday, April 23 – stay tuned!) in the ravines of Toronto’s Taylor Creek Park, in addition to finding the trash I was locating and non-native and invasive perennials, I was encouraged by the sight of a few native ones, as well.

Not many yet (invasive plants often develop foliage earlier in the year than native ones; giving them competitive advantage). But the cranesbill/wild geranium (Geranium maculatum) in the above photo was one exception. The first I’ve seen this year and a most welcome sight! One of the reasons that caring for the natural heritage in this greenspace is so important.

If you want to help with the Community Clean-up Day and Bonfire on April 23, send me an email to paul.abell at arocha.ca expressing your interest. Bring yourself, family, friends, a group…. And if you live in a different part of Toronto, join a Community Clean-up Day event in your neighbourhood. Perhaps even lead one. Click here for details.
