Project Description
It Starts with Plants!
This opportunity presented by A Rocha Ontario allows local businesses, community organizations and passionate individuals to benefit nature right here in our home area. For those who want to do more than just ‘not harm’ nature, a contribution of $20 sponsors the planting of a native species critical to nature’s health in Southern Ontario. Bur Oak, Big Bluestem, Wild Bergamot, Black Willow, Red Maple, Canada Goldenrod, White Birch, Pickerelweed, Eastern Hemlock and more.
Renewing native plant species in this part of Ontario is essential, as plants and animals are under constant pressure from both development and invasive species. Strategic planting of native species can help restore connections across the landscape wildlife require. Your involvement is vital. A Rocha Ontario’s plantings are done in areas that are generally outside the mandate of government or other organizations. We specialize in working on small plots, private lands, schools, and other community organizations in urban and suburban contexts. These spaces present valuable opportunities for building resilience in our local ecosystems.
Because we are convinced that having more people involved in this work is better than leaving it to just a few professionals, we always do our best to involve members of the community in the planting, maintenance and long-term assessment of every tree and perennial.
For every $20 contributed we ensure that a plant goes in the ground. Not in some random spot in the world, but right here in Southern Ontario! We also carry out ongoing assessments of all our planting to ensure that these projects have an impact in the years to come. By contributing to this fund, your business or organization can be a benefit to nature.
“Restoring habitat where we live and work . . . will go a long way toward building biological corridors that connect preserved habitat fragments with one another.”
