A Rocha in Northern BC plays a vital role in protecting salmon habitat and strengthening local coho numbers, and we need your help!
Like a moving smorgasbord, salmon continue to be God’s provision for both natural and human communities along the rivers and streams.
When they have healthy habitats and an abundance of food, salmon are the perfect renewable resource. But with declining spawning areas, warming temperatures, and more drastic drought and flooding events, salmon need an extra helping hand.
Can you help me raise $10,000 to raise 10,000 salmon?
In 2015, A Rocha received a license to raise up to 10,000 coho salmon fry in a pilot hatchery in Houston, BC. It has since grown into a beautiful facility called the Buck Creek Canfor Hatchery and Nature Centre.
On average, it costs $1 to raise one salmon each year in the hatchery. This includes our wonderful, skilled staff who maintain water quality, feed the fish and make sure everything is in order.
Your gift will ensure that a salmon will be lovingly cared for and joyfully released this year.
That’s one bright orange egg raised to a silvery fry in the hatchery. One wriggly fry released at our popular community Goodbye Fry event in June. One determined coho spawner returned to lay up to 3,000 eggs in the very river where it was released.
What a gift to the communities and ecosystems that depend on these incredible creatures.
Please send your gift by July 24, to raise a salmon, protect its habitat, and strengthen local coho numbers. Your gift will also help all of our programs in Northern BC.
With deep gratitude,
Northern BC Coordinator
PS: If you give today, you can raise a salmon fry that will be released into the nearby river and help strengthen coho numbers!
