Project Description

Nestbox Monitoring at the Cedar Haven

Our nestbox monitoring program has been running for 7 years at the Cedar Haven Eco-Centre. We provide nesting sites for birds like the Eastern Bluebird, Tree Swallow and House Wren. The Bluebird and Tree Swallow are cavity nesters and placing nest boxes on the landscape gives them more nesting options. It also allows us to monitor the whole process. A Rocha staff follow the journey from building a nest, to laying eggs, seeing young hatch and then fledge (leave) the nest. This data gives A Rocha insight into which nestboxes are placed well and different trends for species nesting success over time. Given that Tree Swallows are in steep population decline.
