SUMMARY:Winter Activities\, Potluck Supper and Evening Program (Ottawa/Gatineau\, ON)
DESCRIPTION:Join A Rocha Ottawa for our Winter Activities\, Potluck Supper and Evening Program! \nIf you are unable to the afternoon activities\, feel free to join us for supper and the evening program. \nSchedule:\n2:00 pm Winter Activities\nJoin us in Gatineau Park for winter outdoor activities including hiking\, snowshoeing\, and cross-country skiing. You can choose your activity. We will lead a group cross-country ski for anyone who would like to join us. We have plenty of cross-country ski equipment available for those who don’t have any. If you intend to snowshoe you will need to bring your own snowshoes. Meet at 264 Kingsmere at 2:00 pm. (for directions or for a ride please send an e-mail to: paul.heintzman@arocha.ca ). \n5:30 pm Potluck Supper\nPlease RSVP and let us know what you plan to bring so that we can plan accordingly. \n7:00 pm “A Thousand Year Plan: The Deconstruction of Faith in Canada and the Potential for a (Re)Turn to a Creation Ethic.”\nDr. Peter Schuurman will draw on his new book (co-authored with Angela Reitsma Bick) Blessed are the Undone: Testimonies of the Quiet Deconstruction of Faith in Canada (New Leaf 2024) to point to the possibilities for a renewed Creation ethic that lie within the current “deconstructing faith” trend. From interviews with 28 “deconstructing” Canadians\, he examines the place of indigenous culture and history in hopes for a repentant and reconstructed Christian faith\, a faith that sees the “community of creation” as key to the shalom that God promises for all. \nPeter will also be speaking on the topic of “Deconstructing a Young Earth\, Deconstructing Faith: Two Stories\, Two Directions” at a CSCA event on Friday evening Feb. 28 at the Laurentian Leadership Centre. For more details see: https://csca.ca/events/event/2025-ott-sch/ \nPlease RSVP via email to paul.heintzman@arocha.ca to let us know if you will be attending the A Rocha event on March 1 and what you will be bringing for the potluck supper.

SUMMARY:Hemlock Woolly Adelgid Training Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Are you interested in protecting your local forests? Have you ever wondered what you can do to practically help? We have an answer for you! Come to Cedar Haven on March 22nd from 10am-12pm for an A Rocha training session.\nWe will be focusing on identifying a forest pest called Hemlock Woolly Adelgid (HWA). In this workshop\, you will learn the sampling protocol to survey for this insect and the steps you can take to report this devastating species. This insect is moving northward and threatening the health of Ontario Eastern Hemlock in Southern Ontario. If you live near places like Hamilton\, Guelph and Toronto we need your help to combat the invasion and protect our forest health! \nThis event is open to youth and adults age 16+. Please register below. \nSliding Scale Pricing\nWe believe in the value of our programs and we know you do too! That’s why we have introduced sliding scale pricing this year; we are happy to have you come at any rate you select. Instead of a fixed fee\, you can choose from one of three fee options when registering: \n\nSubsidized Rate: Choose this one if cost is a barrier to you attending. We are able to offer this option due to the generosity of our supporters\, including donors and grants.\nTrue-Value Rate: This is what we estimate to be a fair cost for the event. It helps us cover costs of staff\, materials\, and other fees associated with running the event.\nPay-It-Forward Rate: Choose this one if you want to invest in the future of A Rocha programming and help others be able to come at the subsidized rate.\n\nBy offering tiered pricing\, we aim to balance affordability with sustainability\, making our programs accessible while also providing participants with an opportunity to support their community. If you have any questions\, please reach out to us at ontario@arocha.ca. \nREGISTER
