SUMMARY:For the Beauty of the Earth: Artist Panel & Fundraiser (Hamilton\, ON)
DESCRIPTION:Have you ever wondered about the connection between art and the natural world? Join us on March 2nd to explore the beauty of the earth with local artists! At this evening event\, we will delve into the ways art can both motivate and express care for creation. \nThis event will feature a panel discussion moderated by professional fine artist\, Josh Tiessen\, as well as updates and stories from the A Rocha Ontario team. There will be an opportunity to view and discuss local art as well to connect with the A Rocha community. Light refreshments will be available. \nPlease register using the form at the bottom of this page. \nPlease note\, as always\, the event is subject to change or cancellation due to weather conditions\, registration\, or other extraneous circumstances. \nMeet our Featured Artists\nJosh Tiessen (Moderator)\nJosh Tiessen is an international award-winning artist based in Stoney Creek\, ON. He is best known for his hyper-surreal shaped oil paintings\, which draw upon his studies in art history\, philosophy\, and eco-theology. Tiessen has exhibited his work since 2006 in over 100 shows including the National Gallery of Canada and prominent galleries from New York to Los Angeles. Featured in Huffington Post\, Forbes\, and Toronto Star for his art and philanthropy\, Tiessen is also a sought-after speaker and writer\, having been published in magazines such as Christianity Today’s Ekstasis. He is the author of two art monographs books\, including Streams in the Wasteland\, which features paintings and written commentary inspired by Isaiah and biblical themes of creation care. \nwww.joshtiessen.com \nHannah Mae Henry\nHannah Mae Henry is a storyteller and an advocate for the humans\, landscapes\, and wild creatures who cannot tell their stories themselves. Adept at conceptualizing\, directing\, filming\, and editing unique\, high-quality content\, Hannah works as a freelance filmmaker and currently makes conservation and education related content for A Rocha Canada. She hopes that through visual storytelling and advocacy\, folks would fall in love with the natural world and its inhabitants\, be moved to care for their people and places\, and experience hope for the earth.  \nwww.youtube.com/@hannahmaerose \nMegan Little (Panelist)\nMegan Little\, a versatile multimedia artist based in Hamilton\, ON\, crafts enchanting sculptures from paper\, wire\, and light and complements these with emotive works in various painting mediums. With a BA in Visual Arts from Houghton University and a Masters of Theological Studies from McMaster Divinity College\, Megan seamlessly integrates her artistic prowess with a vibrant\, biblically-grounded spiritual life by creating art coming out of her faith practice. Creation is often a source of inspiration for Megan\, whether through seeing more deeping when plein air painting or experiencing the journey of faith through the metaphors provided by the natural world.  \nwww.meganlittleart.com \nJohn Terpstra (Panelist)\nJohn Terpstra is a Hamilton poet\, writer and cabinetmaker. He is the author of ten books of poetry and four books of non-fiction. He often plays in that zone where human beings interact with nature – nature in the city\, not the country. The nature he gravitates toward is one that has some experience of us\, has had to live with us and our demands\, and is no longer pure or whole or perfect\, but still somehow manages to be itself – maybe even more than when it was “wild.” He is interested in how natural geography and built geography integrate and relate to each other. His most recent book\, Daylighting Chedoke\, is about a creek that runs beneath the streets of the city. One of his poems\, called “Giants\,” is mounted on a plaque that overlooks downtown Hamilton from the top of the Niagara Escarpment. \nwww.johnterpstra.com \nDiana Scholtens (Panelist)\nDiana Scholtens is a fibre artist and printmaker whose work is deeply rooted in her love for the natural world. Her artistic inspiration is drawn from the intricate connections between native flora and fauna\, and she expresses this relationship through her unique approach to textile art. Recently\, she has expanded her artistic horizons by experimenting with natural dyes and repurposed fabrics\, demonstrating a commitment to sustainable and eco-friendly practices. She does this to showcase an intimate interplay between the materials she uses and the subjects she portrays. At the thematic core of Diana’s work lies the biblical call to be ‘stewards of the garden.’ This theme serves as the guiding principle for her medium choices\, artistic practices\, and subject matter. As an artist\, she is committed to continuously evaluating the narrative she communicates through her creations\, striving to strike a balance between creativity and conscientious consideration of the ecological impact of her art. Through her art\, Diana Scholtens invites viewers to contemplate their role as stewards of the garden and encourages a deeper understanding of our interconnectedness with the environment. \ndiana.scholtens16@gmail.com \nRegister Below\n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n\n\n \n \n\nFor the Beauty of the Earth - Registration (ARON)\n\nRegistration for this event is free! Then join like-minded folks for a Church Earthkeepers Meet-Up. At these monthly sessions we’ll learn from each other by swapping stories as a way to encourage and equip us to catalyze earthkeeping at church. Come prepared to share your ideas and to hear what works for others as we build a network of regular people working to care for creation within a local church setting. \nThese online gatherings will take place the last Tuesday of every month at 5 PM – 6 PM Pacific Time (8 PM – 9 PM Eastern Time). \nThe following are the scheduled dates for the next five months: \n\nMarch 26\nApril 30\nMay 28\nJune 25\nJuly 30\n\n\n\n\n\nDetails including the Zoom link will be available upon registration. \n\n\nBuy Tickets on Eventbrite\n\nBuy Tickets
