SUMMARY:Beyond Basic Sauerkrauts (Winkler\, MB)
DESCRIPTION:Fermented foods have helped many people with their health\, energy levels\, and digestion. These foods are a great way to prolong the life of your garden produce and add flavour to meals. Also\, fermentation is a way to further enjoy creation. Therefore\, we are inviting Natalie Dyck from Edible Alchemy to lead this workshop on vegetable fermentation. \nBeyond Basic Sauerkrauts is a two-hour workshop. Attendees can expect to learn about the science and unique flavours of fermented vegetables. Additionally\, there will be a DIY vegetable kraut station and samples to tantalize the taste buds. Participants will leave this skill share with knowledge\, hands-on experience\, and hand-outs to accompany their new\, bubbly creation. \nBring a curious appetite\, an open mind\, a glass jar with a good fitting lid and some vegetables that you enjoy eating (such as cabbage\, kale\, beets\, apples\, onions\, peppers\, radishes and herbs). Expect to leave with a jar of delicious\, custom made vegetable kraut to observe and enjoy over the coming weeks. \nWHEN: January 13th\, 7:30pm-9:30pm \nWHERE: Winkler Central Station’s Kitchen – 545 Industrial Drive\, Winkler \nPlease remember to bring a jar with a well-fitting lid and some of your favourite vegetables to fill it with. \n

DESCRIPTION:Winter Activities (2:00 pm)\nJoin us in Gatineau Park for winter outdoor activities including hiking\, snowshoeing\, cross-country skiing and possibly lake skating (conditions permitting). You can choose your activity. We will lead a group cross-country ski for anyone who would like to join us. We have plenty of cross-country ski equipment available for those who don’t have any. If you intend to snowshoe you will need to bring your own snowshoes. Meet at 264 Kingsmere at 2:00 pm. In other words\, it focuses on the character traits needed for us to take proper care of our home planet – virtues such as wonder and humility\, justice and love\, courage and hope. \nDr. Steven Bouma-Prediger is Professor of Religion\, Director of the Environmental Studies program\, and Associate Dean for Teaching and Learning at Hope College in Holland\, MI.
