SUMMARY:Shrub & Tree Transplanting (King Township\, ON)
DESCRIPTION:Want to care for your local ecosystem?\nLive in the Greater Toronto Area?\nJoin us at the Oak Ridges Moraine Land Trust’s StarCliff Nature Reserve helping the Land Trust care for this ecologically unique and significant property. The earth will thank you. And so will your body\, mind and spirit! \nJoin the Facebook Event\nThere might not be ice or snow\, as the above photo suggests\, and it may actually be seasonally warm. But we don’t want anyone to be mislead. And we certainly want everyone to be dressed appropriately. \nThrough hands-on stewardship we’ll be continuing the control of Common Buckthorn and Tartarian Honeysuckle by transplanting native shrubs and trees growing on the trails into locations where those two invasive shrubs are being removed. Even if the there’s a thin layer of ice on the kettle lake\, and even a thin layer of snow\, the ground will still be moist and great for digging in! 🙂 \nOnce established\, Common Buckthorn and Tartarian Honeysuckle dominate and substantially reduce biodiversity. Our replacing the invasive plants with native ones is significant to reversing the spread and negative impact of the invasive ones and for increasing biodiversity. \nFor all the details and to RSVP\, go to http://www.oakridgesmoraine.org/volunteer.html. \n*As StarCliff is a nature reserve and there is a private residence at the opening to the property\, the street address is not publicized.

SUMMARY:Trash Clean-Up! (King Township\, ON)
DESCRIPTION:Want to care for your local ecosystem?\nLive in the Greater Toronto Area?\nJoin us at the Oak Ridges Moraine Land Trust’s StarCliff Nature Reserve helping the Land Trust care for this ecologically unique and significant property. The earth will thank you. And so will your body\, mind and spirit! \nJoin the Facebook Event\nFor this final Nature Reserve Stewardship meeting of the year\, we’ll be clearing out the trash. There’s not a lot\, and almost no small items. But there are a few large ones that will take a number of helping hands! Don’t worry\, we won’t be hauling out the old water pump pictured above. That artifact will remain where it is. At least for now. Though\, there are a few oil drums (used for floats on an old swimming raft) and a few other similarly-sized items that need to be removed. We’ll use a manual winch to assist us. \nSince StarCliff is a Monarch Waystation\,** in place of the oil drums\, we’ll scatter some seeds of native herbacious plants that monarch caterpillars and butterflies require. \nFor all the details and to RSVP\, go to http://www.oakridgesmoraine.org/volunteer.html. \n*As StarCliff is a nature reserve and there is a private residence at the opening to the property\, the street address is not publicized. \n**See http://monarchwatch.org/waystations/
