SUMMARY:Fall Colours Hike\, Supper and Learn Together (Ottawa\, ON)
DESCRIPTION:Join an A Rocha gathering in Ottawa\nPlease RSVP to Paul Heintzman for location details. \n2:00pm – Fall Colours Walk\nJoin us at the home of Paul and Monique Heintzman in Gatineau Park for a walk along the King Mountain Trail. Features of this trail include panoramic views of the fall colours in Gatineau Park\, the City of Ottawa and the Ottawa Valley. For those who are hardy\, there is a possibility of a swim in Kingsmere Lake after the hike. \n5:30pm – Potluck Supper\nPlease RSVP and let us know what you plan to bring so that we can plan accordingly. \n7:00pm – Presentation “The Company We Keep: Do you know your native land?“\nCombining experiences of a childhood in the Ottawa Valley with the insights of 19th century immigrants Moodie & Trail\, and 20th century conservationist Bill Mason\, this illustrated talk is both an invitation – and challenge – to be attentively responsible to the particular environmental community in which one dwells. Lessons learned from Tolkien and C.S. Lewis\, M. Avison and W. Berry call us back to this geographic region of Ontario & Québec. \nDr. Kirstin Jeffrey Johnson (alum of Regent College and Institute of Theology\, Imagination\, & the Arts at University of St Andrews) publishes and lectures internationally on subjects such as the Inklings\, 19th c literature & history\, and engagement with the environment; the common link between her literary and theological mentors is a holistic and integrative responsibility towards\, and love of\, creation.

SUMMARY:Creating Hospitality in the Garden Seminar (Surrey\, BC)

From away spaces for contemplation and renewal that invite us into the presence of God\, to gathering places for fun\, food and fellowship where we reach out to others\, the garden is a place where we both offer and receive hospitality. \nA Rocha’s Community Garden Network is hosting a seminar on “Creating Hospitality in the Garden”. As a follow-up from last year’s Spirituality of Gardening Seminar\, we have invited Christine Sine again\, to share with us her experience in creating sacred garden spaces that share God’s welcome with others. She will be joined by her colleague\, Andy Wade\, who will share how he transformed his garden into an amazing space of hospitality to both God and neighbour. \n  \n \n  \nJoin us as we we explore the many ways we can create hospitable spaces that invite the presence of God and neighbors into our gardens. Reflect with us on the ways that sights\, scents\, textures and sounds can create welcome and invite us into a deeper relationship with God and others. \nLocation: Main House at our Brooksdale Environmental Centre in Surrey\, BC\nTime: 9am – 12pm\nCost: $35\, Early-Bird rate $30 ends Oct.1\, 2016.\nSign up: Secure online link

Please join us at Famine or Feast to be part of the conversation. \nGood Soil Campaign\nThis event is part of the Good Soil campaign\, a partnership with the Canadian Foodgrains Bank and its members\, to advocate that the Canadian government increase its support for small-scale agriculture in Canada’s international aid programs. As we look at global food issues\, we also need to respond to what is happening locally. Join us to figure out what that means.

SUMMARY:Shrub & Tree Transplanting (King Township\, ON)
DESCRIPTION:Want to care for your local ecosystem?\nLive in the Greater Toronto Area?\nJoin us at the Oak Ridges Moraine Land Trust’s StarCliff Nature Reserve helping the Land Trust care for this ecologically unique and significant property. The earth will thank you. And so will your body\, mind and spirit! \nRSVP on Facebook\nThrough hands-on stewardship we’ll be continuing the control of Common Buckthorn and Norway Maple by transplanting native shrubs and trees growing on the trails into locations where those two invasive trees are being removed. \nOnce established\, Common Buckthorn and Norway Maple dominate and substantially reduce biodiversity–including the loss of the brilliant reds and oranges of our native maple species. Our replacing the invasive plants with native ones significant to reversing the spread and negative impact of the invasive ones and for increasing biodiversity. \nA Rocha is thrilled to support the efforts of the Oak Ridges Moraine Land Trust at the StarCliff Nature Reserve. For all the details and to RSVP click here. \n*As StarCliff is a nature reserve and there is a private residence at the opening to the property\, the street address is not publicized.
