Together we’ll reflect on some of the connections that make living in God’s creation so rich and interesting. \n1:45 pm — Nature Lesson with Jacoba Buist (Education Program Coordinator)\nOur kids education is taking off! Jacoba will walk us through a nature lesson\, and share a bit about what makes Cedar Haven programs like Nature Academy and Wild Things day camp so special. (Adults are also encouraged to participate!) \n2:45 pm — Biodiversity Tour with Alan Constant (past Conservation Assistant)\nAlan has spent three summers monitoring species and restoring habitats at Cedar Haven. Come learn more about the species we’re observing and how they are being protected. (And how you can help!) \n3:30 pm — Local Actions Matter with Luke Wilson (CEO of A Rocha Canada)\nThe news overwhelms us about our sick planet. A Rocha focuses on place based conservation and education. Catalyzing hope and community. Learn how you\, too\, can join in responding to the groaning of creation and the renewal of all things. \nWe will converse with: \n\nLowell Bliss\, a missionary with more than 15 years of experience in mobilizing Christians in climate actions\, the co-funding director of Christian Climate Observers Program (CCOP) and the Climate Intercessors initiative.\nPeter Fargo\, a national park manager turned climate advocate in recent years\, and now the co-founder of Climate Vigil.\nEllie Auton-Strolz\, a former intern at A Rocha’s Brooksdale Centre\, currently studying at UBC. She participated at the UN Climate Change Conference (COP26) in Glasgow UK last November through CCOP.

Count birds at your feeders\, on your walks\, during your activities or at an official A Rocha event and report them to the “2022 Bird Blitz Houston BC” project on iNaturalist: https://www.inaturalist.org/projects/2022-bird-blitz-houston-bc \nA Rocha Events: \nFriday\, May 27 \n12:01 am – Let the counting begin. \n6 pm – Duck Pond “Learn to Bird” walk. \nBring your family and meet at the dock at the Duck Pond for this family friendly guided interpretive walk to learn how to identify birds by sight and sound. \nSaturday\, May 28 \n7 am – Bird Nerds Unite \nBirders meet at the Nature Centre to create teams and coordinate locations for the day. (The team with the most recorded species will win a prize.) \n10 am – 3 pm Birds of a Feather Scavenger Hunt \nVisit the Nature Centre at any time to join in on a Feather Scavenger Hunt and learn all about birds in the Bulkley Valley. \n6 pm – Wrap-up Campfire \nJoin us for a campfire at the Nature Centre to tally the count for the day\, find out who wins the prize for the most species counted and hear stories of birding in the Bulkley Valley by local bird watchers. \n12:00 Midnight – Last records accepted for official count.

(No umbrellas\, please)\nBring extra set of clothing and socks.\nBring your own snack (both morning and afternoon)\, lunch & water bottle.\nBring hand sanitizer and mask. We’ll use masks for activities where we’re in close proximity to one another. *(following the most current BC protocols)\n\nHow to Register \nRegistration is a 3-step process: \n1. DESCRIPTION:The John Stott memorial birding day is a global one-day event run by A Rocha on May 14\, 2022 to commemorate and celebrate A Rocha’s great friend and supporter John Stott’s legacy as a theologian\, pastor and birdwatcher in his centenary year. Whether you are a novice or an expert birder\, we invite you to join friends old and new to head into the great outdoors and enjoy the birds wherever you are in God’s good creation. For more information on this day check out the John Stott Birding Day website. \nA Rocha Manitoba will be heading out to the Boreal Ecology Centre for the day to do some recreational birding\, have an outdoor picnic lunch together\, and walk the trails.  \nWhen: May 14\, 2021 – 9 am – 5 pm (although you are welcome to come earlier!)\nWhere: Boreal Ecology Centre (East Braintree\, MB) \nOur aim will be to walk as many of the trails on the property as we can\, so be sure to come equipped with proper hiking gear. This includes layers\, waterproof hiking shoes or boots\, hiking poles\, and backpack. It will also be valuable to have binoculars. Mark has graciously agreed to lead us on the first couple of hikes to help everyone get their bearings. \nPlease bring your own bag lunch.
