DESCRIPTION:Come and join A Rocha as we search for threatened grassland birds! Grassland birds have seen the steepest declines (-67%) in Canada of any bird group since 1970. We will be meeting on June 6th at 8am at the A Rocha Ontario Centre (1440 Westover Road\, Millgrove\, ON) to learn about grassland bird conservation and explore what A Rocha is doing in Ontario to protect and restore these important species at risk. This event will take place during peak breeding season for Bobolink\, Eastern Meadowlark\, and Grasshopper Sparrow. DESCRIPTION:WHO: We’re looking for willing volunteers who care about creation and nature conservation. Skills and knowledge are an asset\, but all knowledge levels are welcome! \nWHAT: Graham (Conservation Science Coordinator) will be leading the group in a forest biodiversity monitoring day. We have set up some permanent monitoring sites to record the plant biodiversity for the area and overtime continue to observe how species diversity is changing. We’ll be working in a 20m×20m area recording a tree stem map\, and narrowing in to several 5m×5m sites observing shrubs and 1m×1m sites observing ground vegetation. \nWHEN: July 3 evening – July 4\, 4:00 pm (overnight optional) \nExperience identifying Manitoba plants is an asset but not required to participate.\n \nThe work will be contributing to:\n1. Setting a baseline understanding of the biodiversity of the forest\n2. Determining the health of the forest (do we see lots of thriving species or less so)\n3. DESCRIPTION:Join us for an exciting week of camp filled with nature based activities\, lots of fun games\, and outdoor exploration. Kids can look forward to a field trip\, special visitors\, fun crafts\, tasty snacks\, and discovering the wonder in our own backyards.  \nCamp runs from 9:00 am – 3:30 pm daily. \n\nKids ages 6-12 welcome.\nCome dressed to be outside for the day.\nBring your own lunch\, water bottle\, sunscreen\, and hat.\nYummy snacks provided!\n\nFor more information on A Rocha’s beliefs\, Heath procedures\, Air Quality Procedures\, and Risky Play Practices see our FAQ page. \nHow to Register \nThis year we are introducing a sliding scale for our day camp fees. We believe in the value of our programs and we know you do too. We also want our programs to be accessible to as many people as possible. Thanks to the generous support of donors and grants we are able to offer our camps at a subsidized rate for everyone. While the true cost of a week of camp is just under $400 per camper\, we are offering three affordable options for you to choose from. \nIf the rates offered are still beyond what you can afford please send us an email and we can talk about further financial assistance. If it is within the week prior to the program\, $50 will be non-refundable\, and the rest depending on if the spot is filled. \nIs this camp right for my child?\nAs a Christian conservation organization we strive to create warm\, inclusive\, quality environmental education programs that care for creation and equip others to do likewise. Our goal is to inspire hope\, wonder and curiosity through hands-on\, place-based immersive science education. By providing students with the opportunity to expand their eco-literacy and familiarity with the natural world\, our desire is that as a reflection of this knowledge\, their appreciation\, care and love of that space deepen and develop alongside their learning and exploration. \nOur work reflects our belief that God loves all of creation and calls humanity to act as stewards of that creation – both the human and non-human bits \nDiving Deeper into our Christian theology: \nWe aim to provide inclusive programming for a wide range of cultural backgrounds within our community. DESCRIPTION:WHAT and WHY: Our annual survey of the health of the Boggy River system and the biodiversity it supports. Maintaining an awareness of the Boggy River can lead us to asking new questions and open new opportunities for research\, learning\, and conservation.\nWHO: You! We’re looking for willing volunteers who care about creation and nature conservation. Skills and knowledge are an asset\, but all are welcome!\nWHERE: The Boreal Ecology Centre\, 81025 Boggy River Rd.\, East Braintree\, MB\nWHEN: Friday\, September 12 (arrive around 4:30 or 5:00 pm but feel free to come earlier if you want) to Saturday\, September 13 (leave by 4:30 or 5:00 pm)\nWHAT TO BRING:\n\nBring snacks – we will provide meals\, but extra snacks are always a good idea.\nBring your own bedding – accommodations are inside the lodge\, but we do not provide bedding.\nBring a PFD or life jacket (Let us know if you do not have access to one – we have a few we can share)\nBring hip-waders if you have them.\nIf you have monitoring equipment you would like to bring or offer\, please let us know when you RSVP below.\n\n\n\nThe more volunteers we have\, the more work we can do to care for creation together!
