SUMMARY:Webinar: What Does it Mean to be an Earthkeeping Church? Refugia as a Vision for Creation Care
DESCRIPTION:This Month’s Church Earthkeepers: Let’s Learn Webinar\nWhat Does it Mean to be an Earthkeeping Church? Refugia as a Vision for Creation Care\nThe biblical story invites all Christ followers to care for God’s world as a part of discipleship. However\, every church body faces opportunities and limitations unique to its situation. What does it look like to integrate earthkeeping into the diverse contexts of typical congregational life\, whether urban or rural\, large or small? How do we imagine our corporate life together might embody God’s invitation to care for creation? \nIn this webinar\, Debra and Ron Rienstra will use the ecological concept of “refugia” to inspire our imaginations for how local churches can become places of flourishing and vitality for all God’s creatures. \nJoin us as we learn from an array of real world examples and explore together the potential for this vivid imagery to invigorate our shared calling to live in ways that allow both our human and non-human neighbours to thrive. \nNote: The event will be recorded. Please register here or at the button below to receive the link to the recording after the event has ended. \nRegisterAbout Our Speakers\n\nDr. Debra Rienstra is a professor of English at Calvin University\, where she has taught since 1996\, specializing in creative nonfiction\, early British literature\, and environmental literature. Her most recent book is Refugia Faith: Seeking Hidden Shelters\, Ordinary Wonders\, and the Healing of the Earth (Fortress 2022)\, a book that combines theology\, nature writing\, and biological principles to consider how Christians must adapt our faith and practice for a climate-altered planet. \n\n\nThey are together working on a book\, Refugia Church: Seeking Deeper Purpose\, Courageous Action\, and the Healing of the Earth\, due in the spring of 2027\, casting a vision for gospel communities in the anthropocene.\n\nRev. Dr. Ron Rienstra is Director of Worship Life and Professor of Preaching & Worship Arts at Western Theological Seminary in Holland\, Michigan\, and Director of Church Partnerships for A Rocha USA. He is an ordained minister in the Reformed Church in America (RCA)\, and coauthor (with Debra) of Worship Words: Disciplining Language for Faithful Ministry. Together they have three grown children\, a multiplicity of living-room instruments\, and a tame back yard they are slowly rewilding.\n\nMore about the Monthly Church Earthkeepers Meet-Up:\nAre you mobilizing your church to care for creation? Do you wish more people shared your interest? Then join like-minded folks for the Church Earthkeepers virtual event series with a renewed rhythm. This is part of our brand new church engagement program\, Becoming an Earthkeeping Church. You can find out more at the newly designed program webpage: Igniting Creation Care in Churches. \nNot able to make the meetup but keen to find out more? Wherever you’re at\, we’re here to walk with you. To arrange a conversation with our team\, reach us here.

SUMMARY:A Rocha Oasis Series
DESCRIPTION:“On impulse\, this past fall I followed a little nudge in my spirit to sign up for A Rocha’s Oasis retreat\, and I was so glad I did. I was very run down\, and the day nourished my mind and body\, and gave me fresh wind in my sails. I’m still reflecting on and using some of the tools shared that day\, and I look forward to attending another retreat in the future.” — Kaitlin Williams\, Artistic Director at Pacific Theatre \nLife in leadership is rewarding but demanding\, often leaving us feeling depleted\, overwhelmed\, and disconnected. The Oasis Series\, hosted by A Rocha Canada\, offers Christian leaders a restorative experience designed to replenish your spirit\, reconnect you to creation\, and renew your commitment to meaningful service. \nJoin us for a transformative day where intentional rest meets and inspiring community. Through reflective teaching sessions\, rich biblical insights\, and guided encounters with nature\, you’ll discover practical ways to incorporate silence\, solitude\, and Sabbath into your busy life. Together\, we’ll navigate the challenges of leadership burnout and discern new paths toward sustainable\, purposeful living. \nWhat makes Oasis unique is its blend of spiritual nourishment\, the goodness of the earth\, and authentic community connection. You’ll leave refreshed\, equipped\, and encouraged\, ready to engage your ministry and community with renewed strength and clarity. \nLearn More & Register

SUMMARY:PA Day Nature Camp - King's Forest (Hamilton\, ON)
DESCRIPTION:Spend your upcoming PA Day at King’s Forest with A Rocha Ontario!\nAt this 1-day nature camp\, your child will have the opportunity to learn about and build a personal connection to the natural world. Each nature camp program will be filled with nature experiences\, science experiments\, storytelling\, nature-based art and fun games! Together\, we will explore nature from both familiar and new perspectives\, building friendships and fond memories along the way. \nThis event is open to children ages 5-13. \nSliding Scale Pricing\nWe believe in the value of our programs and we know you do too! That’s why we have introduced sliding scale pricing this year; we are happy to have you come at any rate you select. Instead of a fixed fee\, you can choose from one of four fee options when registering: \n\nAccessible Rate: Choose this one if cost is a significant barrier to you attending and/or you identify as a member of a community facing systemic barriers to wealth accumulation (ie. you identify as BIPOC\, single-parent household\, low-income family\, etc).\nSubsidized Rate: Choose this one if cost is a barrier to you attending. We are able to offer this option due to the generosity of our supporters\, including donors and grants.\nTrue-Value Rate: This is what we estimate to be a fair cost for the event. It helps us cover costs of staff\, materials\, and other fees associated with running the event.\nPay-It-Forward Rate: Choose this one if you want to invest in the future of A Rocha programming and help others be able to come at the subsidized rate.\n\nBy offering tiered pricing\, we aim to balance affordability with sustainability\, making our programs accessible while also providing participants with an opportunity to support their community. If you have any questions\, please reach out to us at ontario@arocha.ca. \nPayment & Registration\nPlease purchase 1 ticket per child you wish to register. After purchasing your Eventbrite ticket(s)\, a member of our team will reach out by email to gather further registration information.  \n\n \n Purchase Ticket(s)\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n If this program is cancelled due to low enrolment or health and safety restrictions\, payment will be fully refundable. \nReach out to us at ontario@arocha.ca if you have any questions or visit arocha.ca/pa-day-nature-camp.

SUMMARY:Church Earthkeepers: Let's Share (June 2\, 2026)
DESCRIPTION:This Month’s Church Earthkeepers: Let’s Share: \nHaving meals together is a common feature in church events and gatherings of all sorts. There are many ways from food purchasing to preparation\, even in the set up of the meal times\, in which we can practise care of God’s creation collectively. Join us for an earthkeeping idea exchange as we swap stories and imagine new possibilities of congregational earthkeeping that encourage and inspire. \nSign upAbout our facilitator: \nRick Faw has played a key role at A Rocha Canada since 2004 and now serves as Education Director. With training in both science (BSc) and theology (MCS)\, he has a unique ability to help people connect their spiritual lives with the natural world. Passionate about teaching and his love of the outdoors\, Rick makes his home at Kingfisher Farm in Surrey\, BC\, with his family. \nMore about the Monthly Church Earthkeepers Meet-Up: \nAre you mobilizing your church to care for creation? Do you wish more people shared your interest? Then join like-minded folks for a Church Earth keepers Meet-Up. At these monthly sessions we’ll learn from each other by swapping stories as a way to encourage and equip us to catalyze earth keeping at church. Come prepared to share your ideas and to hear what works for others as we build a network of regular people working to care for creation within a local church setting. \nSpecial Note: \nWe’re excited to share that Church Earthkeepers Meet-Ups will follow a new rhythm and we will now meet earlier at 9.30AM to 10.45AM PDT / 12.30PM to 1.45PM EDT. We hope this change creates more space to connect\, learn\, and be inspired together. \nNot able to make the meet-up but keen to find out more? Wherever you’re at\, we’re here to walk with you. To arrange a conversation with our team\, reach us here.
