Together we’ll reflect on some of the connections that make living in God’s creation so rich and interesting. \n1:45 pm — Nature Lesson with Jacoba Buist (Education Program Coordinator)\nOur kids education is taking off! Jacoba will walk us through a nature lesson\, and share a bit about what makes Cedar Haven programs like Nature Academy and Wild Things day camp so special. (Adults are also encouraged to participate!) \n2:45 pm — Biodiversity Tour with Alan Constant (past Conservation Assistant)\nAlan has spent three summers monitoring species and restoring habitats at Cedar Haven. Come learn more about the species we’re observing and how they are being protected. (And how you can help!) \n3:30 pm — Local Actions Matter with Luke Wilson (CEO of A Rocha Canada)\nThe news overwhelms us about our sick planet. A Rocha focuses on place based conservation and education. Catalyzing hope and community. DESCRIPTION:Stories of Christian climate activism\, from organizing prayer gatherings to witnessing at the international climate negotiations.\nClimate change is affecting everyone on earth. But so often the solutions feel out of reach. What can “little-old-me” do in the face of such a complex web of global\, interconnected problems? In this A Rocha Talk we’ll hear from people that have used the weight of ecological concerns to fuel action and engagement. Learn how you\, too\, can join in responding to the groaning of creation and the renewal of all things. \nWe will converse with: \n\nLowell Bliss\, a missionary with more than 15 years of experience in mobilizing Christians in climate actions\, the co-funding director of Christian Climate Observers Program (CCOP) and the Climate Intercessors initiative.\nPeter Fargo\, a national park manager turned climate advocate in recent years\, and now the co-founder of Climate Vigil.\nEllie Auton-Strolz\, a former intern at A Rocha’s Brooksdale Centre\, currently studying at UBC. She participated at the UN Climate Change Conference (COP26) in Glasgow UK last November through CCOP.

Then join like-minded folks for a Church Earthkeepers Meet-Up. At these monthly sessions we’ll learn from each other by swapping stories as a way to encourage and equip us to catalyze earthkeeping at church. Come prepared to share your ideas and to hear what works for others as we build a network of regular people working to care for creation within a local church setting. \nThese online gatherings will take place the last Tuesday of every month at 5 PM – 6 PM Pacific Time (8 PM – 9 PM Eastern Time). We are asking A Rocha friends to bring along a ready-to-serve small salad or small dessert if you are able to. \nPlease e-mail Kris Nanda at kkhnanda@hotmail.com to confirm your attendance so we know how much pizza to order. \n7:00 pm: Video presentation by Katherine Hayhoe \nMounting scientific evidence clearly documents the risks posed by climate change to the poor\, the needy\, and other vulnerable populations\, the very people Christians are called to love. As the scientific evidence builds\, however\, so does the vocal opposition to this evidence: in Canada\, the U.S.\, Australia and the U.K. Much of the disagreement comes from political and religious conservatives. Why is climate change so polarizing to these communities? What makes it so hard to comprehend and accept? Combining basic tenets of the Christian faith with recent findings from the areas of psychology\, sociology\, and climate science\, Hayhoe will discuss potential reasons for these disagreements and the role that shared values may play in moving us forward past these barriers. \nKatherine Hayhoe is a professor and Director of the Climate Science Centre at Texas Tech University. Time Magazine named her one of the 100 most influential people in 2014. She was recently named a Champion of the Earth by the United Nations and is the Climate Ambassador for the World Evangelical Alliance. Katherine was interviewed on CBC Radio’s The House last Saturday.
