Throughout our time together\, we will cover a wide variety of topics including: a honey bee’s life cycle\, their many jobs in the colony\, their importance to our environment (and lives!)\, and how we can be helping them thrive. We will also learn a little bit about the native bees that we have in Ontario. \nThis beehive experience is at a tree nursery farm where our bees are kept. It is a gorgeous space- surrounded by young trees\, situated near a little pond and sometimes we get treated by their grazing sheep! The farm is located in Troy\, Ontario\, just 20 minutes outside of Dundas towards Rockton. \nThere are both hands-on and observational opportunities during these tours. Gloves and suits are available to borrow to get the chance to take a closer look. \nDue to the nature of this outdoor visit\, wearing tall light-colored socks\, closed toed shoes and bringing a water bottle are highly recommended. \nThis event is open to adults and families. An example of a typical day might look like a work project to remove invasive species in the morning\, followed by a discussion over lunch about what it means to be a good steward\, and wrapping up by catching and identifying dragonflies in the afternoon. Through this program\, we aim to make a tangible impact and have fun along the way! \nThe EarthKeepers Club currently has no cost to join and runs from April-November\, usually on the second Saturday of each month.
