DESCRIPTION:EVENT CANCELLED\n\nA Rocha Discovery Days\nA Rocha Discovery Days is an opportunity for people of all ages (including kids and families) to have hands-on experiences of creation at A Rocha’s Boreal Ecology Centre! There will be activities for all ages\, as well as plenty of down time and time to explore (see the draft schedule below!) \n\nMeals and snacks will be provided (Saturday: lunch and supper\, Sunday: breakfast and lunch). Are you excited about citizen science? \nOur annual Christmas bird count is coming up at the Boreal Ecology Centre in East Braintree on December 30.  \nBring warm clothes\, binoculars\, a camera (if you have one)\, and snacks (we will provide lunch). Please also bring what you feel you need to hike winter trails (snow pants\, hiking poles\, etc.) \nHere’s what Birds Canada has to say about their Christmas Bird Count:  \nStarted in 1900\, the Christmas Bird Count is North America’s longest-running Citizen Science project. Counts happen in over 2000 localities throughout the Western Hemisphere. \nThe information collected by thousands of volunteer participants forms one of the world’s largest sets of wildlife survey data. The results are used daily by conservation biologists and naturalists to assess the population trends and distribution of birds. \nEach Christmas Bird Count is conducted on a single day between December 14 and January 5. Counts are carried out within a 24-km diameter circle that stays the same from year to year.
