In contrast to a maze that has dead ends and choices to make along the way\, a labyrinth is a single path to the centre. \nInstead of a pilgrimage to Jerusalem\, or the Camino de Santiago\, medieval churches started to create labyrinths that parishioners could use closer to home. Whether inlaid in stone in the sanctuary or courtyard\, or crafted into a garden\, faithful seekers could easily access it. \nStart your labyrinth walk by setting an intention. Perhaps it’s a very specific question for God/Spirit/Creator\, perhaps it’s a music lyric that has been stuck in your head\, maybe a line of Scripture that inspires or troubles you. It might be a deep breath alongside “what do you want me to hear/see/ponder today.” It could be a decision you’re wrestling with\, or a person you are having a hard time forgiving. \nAnd then deliberately walk towards the centre. If you’re walking with others\, there will be some shuffling as you pass one another. Take note of what your senses are telling you. Maybe you repeat your intention as a mantra to stay focused\, maybe you free your mind to safely wander the path that your intention has set. \nOnce you come to the centre\, do what feels right. Close your eyes\, whisper a prayer\, leave a rock or flower\, pause a moment. Maybe you add a layer to your intention\, a follow up question\, or a repeat of the initial question. \nAnd then walk back out\, taking note of when you make the final step. \nIf the labyrinth is grass or sand\, consider walking it barefoot. If it’s in a public place\, determine whether it seems safe to leave your jacket/bag/extras on the ground and walk unencumbered. DESCRIPTION:As part of its mandate to care for creation\, A Rocha Manitoba is seeking to run a trial of a “Christmas Bird Count” (CBC) in the vicinity of the Boreal Ecology Centre in East Braintree\, Manitoba this coming January 3\, 2020.  We are seeking participants who have an interest in birds and who would be willing to commit to being part of bird-observing teams driving and walking routes in the area from approximately 8:30am-4:30pm. Dinner at the lodge to follow.  \nWe are seeking two categories of participants\, all who must be willing to be outside for most of the day (combination of some driving\, and frequent stops and longer walks – and times for snack breaks and lunch for course!) \n\n1) Participants who are able to assist with recording observations on CBC forms\, pointing out potential birds\, driving\, managing snacks in a vehicle etc. but who may not be confident to accurately identify birds \n\n2) Participants who are confident to be able to identify by sight and sound most of the bird species we could encounter in East Braintree. DESCRIPTION:Join us for a brunch edition of Cafe A Rocha!\nWe will be hearing from Dr. Rachel Krause\, Assistant Professor of Biology at CMU. She has been working with a group of students to do a baseline ecological survey of the Boggy River on the site of the Boreal Ecology Centre! \nRachel is a long time friend of A Rocha and is on the science advisory committee for A Rocha Canada. \n \nHer teaching and research interests include parasitology\, ecology\, and global health.She has worked on both wildlife and human parasitology projects\, and is happiest when she can combine her interests in ecology\, environment and human health. Rachel’s history with A Rocha goes back to an internship she held after finishing her undergraduate degree\, in which she worked on issues of salmon habitat quality in the Little Campbell River in B.C. \nWhen: January 12\, 2019\nWhere: The Neufeld’s – 732 McMillan Ave\nPlease bring a $3-$5 donation to help cover the cost of the meal. \nPlease RSVP to zoe.matties@arocha.ca by Jan 10

DESCRIPTION:“In the morning\, while it was still very dark\, he [Jesus] got up and went out to a deserted place\, and there he prayed” – Mark 1:35 \nMany of us plan to set aside time to pray and listen in the stillness\, but find that in our good intentions we forget or simply don’t follow through. You can join a cohort of fellow pilgrims to set aside time during each season this year (Fall\, Winter\, Spring & Summer). By joining you will be guided into a generous space of silence\, prayer and listening with the intention of connecting and becoming more aware of God’s presence and love. \nSilence in the Seasons Retreat series is intended to create space for people to come away from the busyness and demands of day-to-day life. Become still and aware of God’s presence as we listen in the place of the boreal forest over the seasons.
