SUMMARY:Christmas Bird Count (East Braintree\, MB)
DESCRIPTION:Do you love birding? Are you excited about community science? \nOur annual Christmas bird count is coming up at the Boreal Ecology Centre in East Braintree on December 16. \nBring warm clothes\, binoculars\, a camera (if you have one)\, and snacks (we will provide lunch). Please also bring what you feel you need to hike winter trails (snow pants\, hiking poles\, etc.) \nHere’s what Birds Canada has to say about their Christmas Bird Count:  \nStarted in 1900\, the Christmas Bird Count is North America’s longest-running Citizen Science project. Counts happen in over 2000 localities throughout the Western Hemisphere. \nThe information collected by thousands of volunteer participants forms one of the world’s largest sets of wildlife survey data. The results are used daily by conservation biologists and naturalists to assess the population trends and distribution of birds. \nEach Christmas Bird Count is conducted on a single day between December 14 and January 5. Counts are carried out within a 24-km diameter circle that stays the same from year to year. They are organized\, usually as group efforts\, at the local level\, often by a birding club or naturalist organization. \nThis is a great opportunity to explore the birds that we have in and around the Boreal Ecology Centre and engage people in conducting citizen science. This is part of the work that we want to take on in order to promote connections at the Boreal Ecology Centre that can contribute to conservation. \n\n\nRVSP HEREPlease RSVP by clicking on the button above.\nIf you have questions please contact us here for more info×Contact Us 404\nSorry\, an error occurred.\n\n\n	Sorry\, this form has been permanently removed.\n\n\n Close\n×RSVP Here\n404\nSorry\, an error occurred.\n\n\n	Sorry\, this form has been permanently removed.\n\n\n\nClose

Scots pine are an introduced species in Manitoba. They were previously brought here for erosion control and… you guessed it\, Christmas trees! \nHelp us clear the Boreal Ecology Centre of these trees that don’t belong\, making room for native species\, and in the process\, take home your very own tree. \n\n\n\nOption 1 – Bring your own saw\nOption 2 – We saw for you\n\nnets\, straps\, or ropes not provided\n\n\n$20 suggested donation (please bring cash or cheque)\nContact us here×Contact Us404\nSorry\, an error occurred.\n\n\n	Sorry\, this form has been permanently removed.\n\n\nClose if you have any questions.\n\n\n\nSign up for your slot below. Enjoy this poem that ChatGPT wrote for us: \n‘Twas the season for A Rocha\, so spry and so grand\,\nWith a mission for nature\, they had quite the plan.\nIn the heart of Manitoba\, where pines did entwine\,\nThey’d host a tree harvest\, a festive design.\nZoe\, Scott\, and Graham\, a trio so keen\,\nLed the charge for conservation\, a sight to be seen.\nThey aimed to remove Scots pines\, introduced\, not right\,\nFrom the forest they cherished\, in the soft winter’s light.\nWith axes and saws\, they ventured that day\,\nTo save the woodlands in their very own way.\nThe trees\, tall and sturdy\, once strangers in sight\,\nWould now serve as Christmas joy\, oh\, what a delight!\nAs the snow gently fell\, like a soft\, downy wing\,\nThey worked side by side\, as carolers sing.\nWith laughter and chatter\, their spirits ran high\,\nFor a greener tomorrow\, beneath the vast sky.\nThe pine trees they felled\, a holiday cheer\,\nDecking halls and homes\, spreading festive good cheer.\nBut A Rocha knew best\, their cause was just right\,\nTo protect the wild spaces\, both day and by night.\nWith hearts full of hope and the forest set free\,\nThey celebrated their work\, ‘neath the Christmas tree.\nA Rocha Manitoba\, in their mission so bright\,\nMay your holidays be merry\, and your conservation take flight!

SUMMARY:A Rocha Talks: What is it like to be a Christian Observer at a UN Climate conference?
DESCRIPTION:We will hear from Christians that have attended recent UN climate conferences and learn about its impact on their lives.\nHave you ever wondered what happens at those annual UN climate talks? We hear on the news that representatives from around the world gather to talk about climate change but what’s really going on? And why does progress seem so slow? \nEvery year there are Christians with these questions (and many more besides) that attend these gatherings as official Observers. In this discussion we will hear from a few of them about what they learned from their experience and\, even more importantly\, how they have changed as a result. \nOur panelists include: \n\nMonica Tang (CCOP 2019 @ COP25\, Madrid\, Spain)\nMonica is a bivocational creation care advocate. She leads a relationships and partnerships team at the Canadian Coast Guard\, supporting collaborative governance in oceans and marine safety management. Monica is also on the Board of Directors for Citizens for Public Justice (CPJ)\, where she advises on strategy\, governance\, and CPJ programs and policies to guide CPJ’s work in economic\, social and ecological Justice.\nElsa Barron (CCOP 2021 @ COP26\, Glasgow UK)\nElsa is an environmental peace and security researcher\, writer\, poet\, and youth activist based in Washington D.C. and is the Co-Chair of the Young Professionals Interest Group of the Environmental Peacebuilding Association. She has been featured for her faith and climate advocacy in the Wall Street Journal\, Rolling Stone\, and the Christian Science Monitor\, among others\, and she attended COP26 and COP27 through the Christian Climate Observers Program. Elsa graduated from the University of Notre Dame where she studied peace studies and biology.\nSarah Demian (CCOP 2022 @ COP27\, Sharm el-Sheikh\, Egypt)\nSarah is going into her fourth year of university\, studying biology and psychology. At Trinity Western University\, she works as a researcher and studies the growth of invasive knotweed along the Chilliwack River as a result of the atmospheric flood of 2021. She will be presenting on climate change and invasive species at the ASA/CSCA conference at University of Toronto this July.
