SUMMARY:Christmas Bird Count (East Braintree\, MB)
DESCRIPTION:Do you love birding? Are you excited about community science? \nOur annual Christmas bird count is coming up at the Boreal Ecology Centre in East Braintree on December 16. \nBring warm clothes\, binoculars\, a camera (if you have one)\, and snacks (we will provide lunch). Please also bring what you feel you need to hike winter trails (snow pants\, hiking poles\, etc.) \nHere’s what Birds Canada has to say about their Christmas Bird Count:  \nStarted in 1900\, the Christmas Bird Count is North America’s longest-running Citizen Science project. Counts happen in over 2000 localities throughout the Western Hemisphere. \nThe information collected by thousands of volunteer participants forms one of the world’s largest sets of wildlife survey data. The results are used daily by conservation biologists and naturalists to assess the population trends and distribution of birds. \nEach Christmas Bird Count is conducted on a single day between December 14 and January 5. Counts are carried out within a 24-km diameter circle that stays the same from year to year. They are organized\, usually as group efforts\, at the local level\, often by a birding club or naturalist organization. \nThis is a great opportunity to explore the birds that we have in and around the Boreal Ecology Centre and engage people in conducting citizen science. This is part of the work that we want to take on in order to promote connections at the Boreal Ecology Centre that can contribute to conservation. \n\n\nRVSP HEREPlease RSVP by clicking on the button above.\nIf you have questions please contact us here for more info×Contact Us \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n\n\n\n \n \n\n\n\nYour Name\n\n\nYour Email\n\n\nYour Subject\n\n\nYour Message\n\nYes\, I want to sign up for ARMB's monthly newsletter!\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nreCAPTCHA helps prevent automated form spam.\n\nThe submit button will be disabled until you complete the CAPTCHA.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nContact Information \n \n \n \n Close\n×RSVP Here\n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n\n\n\n \n \n Event RSVP (Manitoba)\n\n \n Sorry\, this form is not available. \n \n \n \n \n\nClose

DESCRIPTION:Learn together with us what permaculture is and how we can implement it in our own urban spaces!Permaculture is “the conscious design and maintenance of agriculturally productive ecosystems which have the diversity\, stability\, and resilience of natural ecosystems” (permaculturenews.org). Permaculture takes significant wisdom and inspiration from traditional Indigenous farming practices around the world. \nThe Metanoia Farmers Worker Cooperative (also known as the CMU Farm) is making a big transition to permaculture\, and you’re invited to come along for the journey and learn with them and with us! \nDuring this introductory workshop (the first of three throughout the growing season)\, we will read and discuss an article about permaculture\, talk with the farmers about what their transition to permaculture looks like practically\, and then work on building a permanent bed. \nCome prepared to learn and work (there are tasks for every body and ability\, including observing if that’s what you prefer/are able to do!) \nThis event is FREE but we do ask that you RSVP below. \nThursday June 22\, 7 PM \nCMU Farm (see map) \nPlease bring clothes you can get dirty\, a lawn chair\, and curiosity! \nDon’t miss the other workshops in the series\, on July 27 and September 14! See our events page for more details. \nThis workshop series is part of a partnership between A Rocha Manitoba and the Metanoia Farmers Worker Cooperative \nRSVP×RSVP to Intro to Urban Permaculture\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\nRSVP Here\n\n\n\nHow many people will join us? \nPlease select…12345678910\n\n\nMain Contact Name \n\n\n\nMain Contact Email \n\n\n\n\nEvent \n\n\n\nComments or Questions \n\n\n\n\nYes\, I want to sign up for A Rocha Manitoba’s monthly newsletter!\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nreCAPTCHA helps prevent automated form spam.\nThe submit button will be disabled until you complete the CAPTCHA.\n\n\n \n\n\n \n\n\n\n\nContact Information \n\n\n\nClose

SUMMARY:Christmas Bird Count (East Braintree\, MB)
DESCRIPTION:Do you love birding? Are you excited about community science? \nOur annual Christmas bird count is coming up at the Boreal Ecology Centre in East Braintree on December 17.

SUMMARY:Germinating Conversations: Feeding the World? (Winnipeg\, MB)
DESCRIPTION:“Feeding the World?”\nAs inflation and a rising cost of living takes hold around the world\, we are told again of a “perfect storm” for those dependent on a globalized food system. What does the emerging global food price crisis mean for ordinary life and efforts to feed one’s family? What are the stories we\, here on the prairies\, tell ourselves about “feeding the world”? How do they intersect with cheap food policies\, export-oriented agriculture\, corporate concentration\, and the multitude of ways people harvest and grow food? \n\n\n\n\n\nYou’re invited to a live facilitated roundtable dialogue with growers\, harvesters\, and eaters. The Germinating Conversations initiative nurtures relationships between Manitoba farmers\, harvesters\, and eaters by paying close attention to the art of listening well. \nPARTICIPANTS: Lydia Carpenter\, Jim Cornelius\, Colleen Dyck\, Reg Dyck\, Ryan Turnbull\, and Janelle Wride \nWHEN: Tuesday\, Nov 29\, 7:00PM \nWHERE: Canadian Mennonite University (Great Hall\, North Campus) \nThis event is supported through a partnership between A Rocha Canada\, Canadian Foodgrains Bank\, Canadian Mennonite University\, and Mennonite Central Committee Manitoba.

SUMMARY:Intro to Urban Permaculture (Winnipeg\, MB)
DESCRIPTION:Ever wondered what you can do to address climate change and biodiversity loss in your own yard? \nIf so\, you are invited to Scott’s yard for an introduction to urban permaculture design from Paul Kruse and Heather Unger from Northern Grove Tree Service. \n \nPermaculture provides a big-picture perspective\, using nature’s patterns and rules as a basis for designing your home\, backyard garden\, business\, community commons\, and municipal streets and parkways. It’s a systematic\, regenerative approach that tackles big problems –and solves them – with sweeping effects. ~ Verge Permaculture \n\n \nWe will hear about basic concepts such as swales and guilds\, and key principles of permaculture\, and get to see some design elements in action taking form in Scott’s front yard! We hope to have an opportunity for you to get your hands dirty too! \nJoin us at 7:00pm at 215 Canora street. Snacks and Beverages will be provided. \nRSVP HERE\n×RSVP\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n\n\n\n \n \n RSVP Here\n\n \n Sorry\, this form is not available. \n \n \n \n \n[/modal]\nClose
