Counts happen in over 2000 localities throughout the Western Hemisphere. \nThe information collected by thousands of volunteer participants forms one of the world’s largest sets of wildlife survey data. The results are used daily by conservation biologists and naturalists to assess the population trends and distribution of birds. \nEach Christmas Bird Count is conducted on a single day between December 14 and January 5. Counts are carried out within a 24-km diameter circle that stays the same from year to year. They are organized\, usually as group efforts\, at the local level\, often by a birding club or naturalist organization. \nThis is a great opportunity to explore the birds that we have in and around the Boreal Ecology Centre and engage people in conducting citizen science. This is part of the work that we want to take on in order to promote connections at the Boreal Ecology Centre that can contribute to conservation.

SUMMARY:Why Creation is Waiting for the Christians: An Evening with Peter Harris (Winnipeg\, MB)
DESCRIPTION:The founder of A Rocha International is coming to Winnipeg and you are invited to come hear him speak. Peter Harris has been involved in the global nature conservation movement for over 40 years. Peter will be giving his talk Why Creation is Waiting for the Christians. \nThe world is facing what has been called a polycrisis\, one which certainly implies damage to both climate and all forms of life on earth. But is the good news that Christians believe in\, relevant to these times? We will explore how it is\, and what it means for some of the most impoverished human communities and the threatened ecosystems that sustain them. \n“The good news of Jesus is meant to be written in the landscapes and not just in people’s lives.” – Peter Harris \nRefreshments will be served after. \nThis event is hosted by A Rocha in Manitoba in partnership with Faith Covenant Church and Canadian Scientific & Christian Affiliation \nLocation: Faith Covenant Church – 1229 Windermere Ave  \nTime: Oct 30\, 2025 – 7:00 PM \nPlease register below. Limited spots available. \nAbout Peter Harris \nPeter and his late wife Miranda founded A Rocha\, a family of conservation organizations in over 22 countries working together to live out God’s calling to care for creation\, in 1983. The A Rocha story is told in Peter’s books\, Under the Bright Wings and Kingfisher’s Fire. A Cambridge graduate and Anglican minister\, Peter has served as Adjunct Faculty at Regent College\, Vancouver and Au Sable Institute\, Michigan. In his retirement\, he continues to serve A Rocha as a volunteer\, developing ways to create jobs and wealth and improve the environment instead of overexploiting it. In 2019\, Peter and Miranda were in a horrific road accident in South Africa\, which she did not survive\, and which he has since spoken about in lectures and on film. \n“Peter Harris is a persistent and most convincing witness that the Christ who saves and the Christ who creates are one and the same Christ\, that the care and celebration of creation is essential to a full evangelical witness of the Gospel of salvation.” – Eugene Peterson

SUMMARY:Church EarthKeepers Meet-Up (May 2025)
DESCRIPTION:A Preview of This Month’s Church Earth Keepers Meetup: \nHave you ever run into roadblocks when recruiting people at your church to care for creation? What are the concerns or hesitations you encounter? This month we’re going to do something a bit different. At these monthly sessions we’ll learn from each other by swapping stories as a way to encourage and equip us to catalyze earth keeping at church. Come prepared to share your ideas and to hear what works for others as we build a network of regular people working to care for creation within a local church setting.\nThese online gatherings will take place the last Tuesday of every month at 5 PM – 6:15 PM Pacific Time (8 PM – 9.15 PM Eastern Time). The following are the scheduled dates for the few next months: \n\nMay 27\nJune 24\nJuly 29\nAugust 26\nSeptember 30\nOctober 28\n\nDetails including the Zoom link will be available upon registration. \n\nBuy Tickets on Eventbrite\n\nBuy Tickets

SUMMARY:Christmas Bird Count (East Braintree\, MB)
DESCRIPTION:Do you love birding? Are you excited about community science? \nOur annual Christmas bird count is coming up at the Boreal Ecology Centre in East Braintree on December 16. \nBring warm clothes\, binoculars\, a camera (if you have one)\, and snacks (we will provide lunch). Please also bring what you feel you need to hike winter trails (snow pants\, hiking poles\, etc.) \nHere’s what Birds Canada has to say about their Christmas Bird Count:  \nStarted in 1900\, the Christmas Bird Count is North America’s longest-running Citizen Science project. SUMMARY:Christmas Bird Count (East Braintree\, MB)
DESCRIPTION:Do you love birding? Are you excited about community science? \nOur annual Christmas bird count is coming up at the Boreal Ecology Centre in East Braintree on December 17. \n\n\nRVSP HEREPlease RSVP by clicking on the button above.\nIf you have questions please contact us here for more info×Contact Us \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n\n\n\n \n \n\n\n\nYour Name\n\n\nYour Email\n\n\nYour Subject\n\n\nYour Message\n\nYes\, I want to sign up for ARMB's monthly newsletter!\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nreCAPTCHA helps prevent automated form spam.\n\nThe submit button will be disabled until you complete the CAPTCHA.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nContact Information \n \n \n \n Close\n×RSVP Here\n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n\n\n\n \n \n Event RSVP (Manitoba)\n\n \n Sorry\, this form is not available. \n \n \n \n \n\nClose
