While it is important to explore these feelings\, there is equal value in finding joy in God’s earth and celebrating with nature. \nThis Silence in Seasons retreat aims to help you reflect on how you can find joy in creation\, even in the midst of eco-crisis. \nYou will be led through a weekend of guided reflection\, contemplative prayer\, meditative forest walks\, and eating good food together. DESCRIPTION:WHAT and WHY: As a follow up to a baseline study conducted by CMU\, we want to continue to monitor the status of the river. By maintaining a stream (pun absolutely intended) of knowledge about the river\, we can learn about the health of the system and the biodiversity it supports. Maintaining an awareness of the Boggy River can also lead us to asking new questions and open new opportunities for research\, learning\, and conservation.\nWHO: You! We’re looking for willing volunteers who care about creation and nature conservation. DESCRIPTION:EVENT CANCELLED\n\nA Rocha Discovery Days\nA Rocha Discovery Days is an opportunity for people of all ages (including kids and families) to have hands-on experiences of creation at A Rocha’s Boreal Ecology Centre! There will be activities for all ages\, as well as plenty of down time and time to explore (see the draft schedule below!) \n\nMeals and snacks will be provided (Saturday: lunch and supper\, Sunday: breakfast and lunch). You are\, of course\, welcome to bring other snacks and drinks\, either for yourself or to share!\nAttendees will be camping in tents and are required to bring all of their own gear (if this poses a barrier\, do let us know and we can make an arrangement!)\nThere will be indoor access for washrooms\, kitchen/meals\, and hang-out space. The lodge also has a library of creation care books.\nThis event is family friendly!\n\nPayment & Registration\n\nPurchase your tickets through Eventbrite below and fill out the information for all attendees\nThe cost is $35 per participant – this covers the cost of meals\, wear-and-tear on the property\, and programming. We have several permanent monitoring sites set up and would like to record plant biodiversity for them. We will be starting from 1×1m quadrats and expanding outwards recording samples of herbs\, shrubs\, and then more detailed stem mapping of trees.\nExperience identifying Manitoba plants is an asset but not required to participate.\n \nThis work is meant to accomplish a couple of things:\n1. Set a baseline understanding of the biodiversity of the forest\n2. Determine the health of the forest (do we see lots of thriving species or less so)\n3. DESCRIPTION:The John Stott memorial birding day is a global one-day event run by A Rocha on May 14\, 2022 to commemorate and celebrate A Rocha’s great friend and supporter John Stott’s legacy as a theologian\, pastor and birdwatcher in his centenary year. Whether you are a novice or an expert birder\, we invite you to join friends old and new to head into the great outdoors and enjoy the birds wherever you are in God’s good creation. For more information on this day check out the John Stott Birding Day website. \nA Rocha Manitoba will be heading out to the Boreal Ecology Centre for the day to do some recreational birding\, have an outdoor picnic lunch together\, and walk the trails.  \nWhen: May 14\, 2021 – 9 am – 5 pm (although you are welcome to come earlier!)\nWhere: Boreal Ecology Centre (East Braintree\, MB) \nOur aim will be to walk as many of the trails on the property as we can\, so be sure to come equipped with proper hiking gear. This includes layers\, waterproof hiking shoes or boots\, hiking poles\, and backpack. It will also be valuable to have binoculars. Mark has graciously agreed to lead us on the first couple of hikes to help everyone get their bearings. \nPlease bring your own bag lunch.
