SUMMARY:John Stott Memorial Birding Day 2024 (Manitoba)
DESCRIPTION:The John Stott memorial birding day is a global one-day event run by A Rocha on May 11\, 2024 to commemorate and celebrate A Rocha’s great friend and supporter John Stott’s legacy as a theologian\, pastor and birdwatcher in his centenary year. Whether you are a novice or an expert birder\, we invite you to join friends old and new to head into the great outdoors and enjoy the birds wherever you are in God’s good creation. For more information on this day check out the John Stott Birding Day website. \nA Rocha Manitoba will be heading out to the Boreal Ecology Centre for the day to do some recreational birding\, have an outdoor picnic lunch together\, and walk the trails.  \nWhen: May 11\, 2024 – 9 am – 3 pm (although you are welcome to come earlier!)\nWhere: Boreal Ecology Centre (East Braintree\, MB) \nOur aim will be to walk as many of the trails on the property as we can\, so be sure to come equipped with proper hiking gear. This includes layers\, waterproof hiking shoes or boots\, hiking poles\, and backpack. Binoculars are also an asset – bring a pair if you have them. \nPlease bring your own bag lunch. Snacks will be provided. \nPlease RSVP so we know how many folks to expect! \nRSVP×RSVP\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n\n\n \n \n RSVP Here\n\n \n Sorry\, this form is not available. \n \n \n \n \n[/modal]Close

SUMMARY:Christmas Bird Count (East Braintree\, MB)
DESCRIPTION:Do you love birding? Are you excited about community science? \nOur annual Christmas bird count is coming up at the Boreal Ecology Centre in East Braintree on December 16. \nBring warm clothes\, binoculars\, a camera (if you have one)\, and snacks (we will provide lunch). Please also bring what you feel you need to hike winter trails (snow pants\, hiking poles\, etc.) \nHere’s what Birds Canada has to say about their Christmas Bird Count:  \nStarted in 1900\, the Christmas Bird Count is North America’s longest-running Citizen Science project. Counts happen in over 2000 localities throughout the Western Hemisphere. \nThe information collected by thousands of volunteer participants forms one of the world’s largest sets of wildlife survey data. The results are used daily by conservation biologists and naturalists to assess the population trends and distribution of birds. \nEach Christmas Bird Count is conducted on a single day between December 14 and January 5. Counts are carried out within a 24-km diameter circle that stays the same from year to year. They are organized\, usually as group efforts\, at the local level\, often by a birding club or naturalist organization. \nThis is a great opportunity to explore the birds that we have in and around the Boreal Ecology Centre and engage people in conducting citizen science. This is part of the work that we want to take on in order to promote connections at the Boreal Ecology Centre that can contribute to conservation. \n\n\nRVSP HEREPlease RSVP by clicking on the button above.\nIf you have questions please contact us here for more info×Contact Us \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n\n\n \n \n\n\n\nYour Name\n\n\nYour Email\n\n\nYour Subject\n\n\nYour Message\n\nYes\, I want to sign up for ARMB's monthly newsletter!\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nreCAPTCHA helps prevent automated form spam.\n\nThe submit button will be disabled until you complete the CAPTCHA.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nContact Information \n \n \n \n Close\n×RSVP Here\n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n\n\n \n \n Event RSVP (Manitoba)\n\n \n Sorry\, this form is not available. \n \n \n \n \n\nClose

SUMMARY:Scots Pine Christmas Tree Spectacular (Boreal Ecology Centre\, MB)
DESCRIPTION:‘Twas the season for A Rocha\, so spry and so grand\,\nWith a mission for nature\, they had quite the plan.\nIn the heart of Manitoba\, where pines did entwine\,\nThey’d host a tree harvest\, a festive design.\nCome enjoy a hot beverage\, the trails\, a campfire\, and a chance to cut down your own Christmas tree! \nWhy are we doing this? Scots pine are an introduced species in Manitoba. They were previously brought here for erosion control and… you guessed it\, Christmas trees! \nHelp us clear the Boreal Ecology Centre of these trees that don’t belong\, making room for native species\, and in the process\, take home your very own tree. \n\n\n\nOption 1 – Bring your own saw\nOption 2 – We saw for you\n\nnets\, straps\, or ropes not provided\n\n\n$20 suggested donation (please bring cash or cheque)\nContact us here×Contact Us\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n\n\n \n \n\n\n\nYour Name\n\n\nYour Email\n\n\nYour Subject\n\n\nYour Message\n\nYes\, I want to sign up for ARMB's monthly newsletter!\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nreCAPTCHA helps prevent automated form spam.\n\nThe submit button will be disabled until you complete the CAPTCHA.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nContact Information \n \n \n \nClose if you have any questions.\n\n\n\nSign up for your slot below. Please select one ticket per group (you’ll be able to let us know how many will be coming in your group as you register): \n\n\n\n\n\nCongrats\, you read to the bottom of this post. Enjoy this poem that ChatGPT wrote for us: \n‘Twas the season for A Rocha\, so spry and so grand\,\nWith a mission for nature\, they had quite the plan.\nIn the heart of Manitoba\, where pines did entwine\,\nThey’d host a tree harvest\, a festive design.\nZoe\, Scott\, and Graham\, a trio so keen\,\nLed the charge for conservation\, a sight to be seen.\nThey aimed to remove Scots pines\, introduced\, not right\,\nFrom the forest they cherished\, in the soft winter’s light.\nWith axes and saws\, they ventured that day\,\nTo save the woodlands in their very own way.\nThe trees\, tall and sturdy\, once strangers in sight\,\nWould now serve as Christmas joy\, oh\, what a delight!\nAs the snow gently fell\, like a soft\, downy wing\,\nThey worked side by side\, as carolers sing.\nWith laughter and chatter\, their spirits ran high\,\nFor a greener tomorrow\, beneath the vast sky.\nThe pine trees they felled\, a holiday cheer\,\nDecking halls and homes\, spreading festive good cheer.\nBut A Rocha knew best\, their cause was just right\,\nTo protect the wild spaces\, both day and by night.\nWith hearts full of hope and the forest set free\,\nThey celebrated their work\, ‘neath the Christmas tree.\nA Rocha Manitoba\, in their mission so bright\,\nMay your holidays be merry\, and your conservation take flight!

SUMMARY:Christmas Bird Count (East Braintree\, MB)
DESCRIPTION:Do you love birding? Are you excited about community science? \nOur annual Christmas bird count is coming up at the Boreal Ecology Centre in East Braintree on December 17.

SUMMARY:John Stott Memorial Birding Day (Manitoba)
DESCRIPTION:The John Stott memorial birding day is a global one-day event run by A Rocha on May 14\, 2022 to commemorate and celebrate A Rocha’s great friend and supporter John Stott’s legacy as a theologian\, pastor and birdwatcher in his centenary year. \nWhen: May 14\, 2021 – 9 am – 5 pm (although you are welcome to come earlier!)\nWhere: Boreal Ecology Centre (East Braintree\, MB) \nOur aim will be to walk as many of the trails on the property as we can\, so be sure to come equipped with proper hiking gear. This includes layers\, waterproof hiking shoes or boots\, hiking poles\, and backpack. It will also be valuable to have binoculars. Mark has graciously agreed to lead us on the first couple of hikes to help everyone get their bearings. \nPlease bring your own bag lunch. Snacks will be provided. \nPlease contact us here to RSVP ×RSVP\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n\n\n \n \n RSVP Here\n\n \n Sorry\, this form is not available. \n \n \n \n \n[/modal]\nClose
