SUMMARY:John Stott Memorial Birding Day 2026 (Manitoba)
DESCRIPTION:The John Stott memorial birding day is a global one-day event run by A Rocha on May 9\, 2026 to commemorate and celebrate A Rocha’s great friend and supporter John Stott’s legacy as a theologian\, pastor and birdwatcher in his centenary year. Whether you are a novice or an expert birder\, we invite you to join friends old and new to head into the great outdoors and enjoy the birds wherever you are in God’s good creation. For more information on this day check out the John Stott Birding Day website. \nThis year we will be offering two options for the birding day. Please register below for the option you would like to attend: \n\nBoreal Ecology Centre: recreational birding\, outdoor picnic lunch together\, and walking the trails.\nMeet at 9 am at the centre (East Braintree\, MB)\nOur aim will be to walk as many of the trails on the property as we can\, so be sure to come equipped with proper hiking gear. This includes layers\, waterproof hiking shoes or boots\, hiking poles\, and backpack. Binoculars are also an asset – bring a pair if you have them. Please bring your own bag lunch.\nAssiniboine Park: Join birding guides for a walk in the park.\nMeet at 7:30 am at the gates to the English Garden. The walk will be a couple of hours.\n\nPlease RSVP so we know how many folks to expect!

SUMMARY:Conservation Saturday (Boreal Ecology Centre\, MB)
DESCRIPTION:WHO: We’re looking for willing volunteers who care about creation and nature conservation. Skills and knowledge are an asset\, but all knowledge levels are welcome! \nWHAT: Graham (Conservation Science Coordinator) will be leading the group in a forest biodiversity monitoring day. We have set up some permanent monitoring sites to record the plant biodiversity for the area and overtime continue to observe how species diversity is changing. We’ll be working in a 20m×20m area recording a tree stem map\, and narrowing in to several 5m×5m sites observing shrubs and 1m×1m sites observing ground vegetation. \nWHEN: July 3 evening – July 4\, 4:00 pm (overnight optional) \nExperience identifying Manitoba plants is an asset but not required to participate.\n \nThe work will be contributing to:\n1. Setting a baseline understanding of the biodiversity of the forest\n2. Determining the health of the forest (do we see lots of thriving species or less so)\n3. Understanding the succession is part of a healthy forest we want to see how the forest is\ngrowing and changing \nWHERE: The Boreal Ecology Centre\, 81025 Boggy River Rd.\, East Braintree\, MB \nWHAT TO BRING:\nEssentials: bag lunch (including snacks\, water bottle etc.)\, work boots and gloves\, good clothes for walking and being outdoors\, bug spray/bug net and sunscreen \nIf you have any questions\, \n×Contact Us\n \nCloseContact us Here
